Scott. It is like you said. Engagement at some point. not always, Wisha, coulda, shoulda. I just can't move like that. OK. To solve the problem, real short times, shorter than you'll started out with. Maybe my body can take that several times a day. I also will try the power chair in the process. Food would have to be rearrange not to get fat, and keep him hungry. We will get it done, with the family's help. Dan

Barbara, you are right, I say nope, go get him, and repeat the objective. But how do I reconcile the miss behavior of him wanting to jump on me, paws in my face. I have corrected that, by putting him in the sitz before and after the fact, with some tug on the collar and a no. specially when I am in the power chair. It might be playing on his part, he was seventy pounds last time I weighted him, solid. I am going to do marker training. My Olympics best shot. I also going to review Mr. Frawley's Dealing with Dominant & Aggressive Dogs. Just for knowledge. Dan
Dan, knowing you are working Chico in Schutzhund makes me want to suggest you listen to Scott on how he would handle the jumping on you. (I remember when we were exploring Schutzhund training there were some behaviors which if corrected, could have an adverse effect on the ScH training.) What you might do if Chico was "just a pet" might be very different than you will do since you are working him... make sense? I'll go back and read your earlier post, but have you spoken with your trainer about this behavior?
Good Barbara. That is the same scenario like mouthing as a pup, Mr. Frawley speaks to that in "How to Raise a Working Puppy" and I understand. I spoke to my director and he said to me "give him a command" and it works, plus it is getting a lot better. Now I just have to get myself not to be frustrated, angry, or any other emotion that is not conducive to training. But Scott is my pinch hitter, I always go to Him, but He is a busy man. and a good man. Dan

Yes Elaine, you are so right. I don't know how I miss your post. but in a way it was good. I now had a chance to view the dvd's, and go out and try the tech nicks. This dancer needs more practice. it's not the dog, (Chico). He only goes by my lead. Dan

Blowing you off is not acceptable in my book what is the reason for this?
Would you agree that if the training is being done with Markers, no corrections would be given for non-compliance?
No, I don’t think markers are the end all to corrections
I don't have any problems with giving a correction when needed, but would not do so when training with markers. My understanding of that training philosophy is that it is intended to be 100% positive, and the only "negative" is simply a negative marker "nope" and the lack of the reward. Never a correction in the sense of a pop, prong, e collar, etc...
We might be saying the same thing... Training with the marker system (with no corrections) but corrections afterwards for a dog who understands the commands but is simply blowing you off.
Barbra, yes, I don’t correct during the learning phase. I am guessing you mean training with markers are 100% positive during the learning phase??
