So I've got them backwards.....? Comfortis kills with each bite? Your poor pup really seems like its been through flea boot camp! Some years these buggers seem so unrelenting that it makes you want to pull your hair out. You almost need to wrap the dog in a haz-mat suit to send it outside.
It might be helpful to put together a list of all the treatments, the active ingredients, the time it takes to work, etc.. I know so many people in your boat... Its nice to know something is working for you!
From what I understand Comfortis kills as fast as Capstar but lasts for a month rather than only 24 hours.
Frontline and advantage take longer and are not as effective anymore, according to my vet some fleas are apparently immune to the chemicals at this point.
I think that in the 12 hours it takes for frontline to kill the flea they were able to lay eggs so it wasn't getting them well enough.
Frontline quit, kaput, nothing last year. This year we went with Promeris and have been very pleased with the results. VERY strong smell when you first apply though, do it outside!
How does Comfortis compare in price to the Capstar? Love the idea that it works so fast and lasts such a long time. I'm in the market for a new flea regiment.
Im not sure about frontline but I know Bayer has done quite a few studies on flea resistance to their products. They havent found any immunity in the cases they've researched. These are all on their website.
It costs me 38 dollars a month to do both dogs. My vet sells single doses so I just pop in there and grab a months worth at a time.
Advantix worked better for me than normal Advantage, but it leaves a big red bald spot every time we have tried it. I don't like that so choose to use other products.
Capstar is great in emergencies, but to use it daily would be really expensive.
