I need to look for the e-book on beginning marker training. Thus far, Windi has worked well with just giving her praise. How will that work with Marker Training? When I call her to me, she sits at my feet waits for me to pet her. It's worked well to teach her sit. But, I don't know how to teach her "down" with that? Also, I should mention I am not an overly loving dog owner. My dogs get patted when I want to, and only when I want to. And I pretty much only do so as a reward for thing I wanted done.
When we are walking, she will cross in front of me, or stop in front of me to get my attention. I typically just walk through her, and ignore her behavior. Is that the best way to go?

Upload your pic to a site like Photobucket (its free). They you will have a "direct link" series of numbers assigned to that photo which will then be cut/pasted either directly onto your post or you can go to My Stuff (in grey bar at top of page, then to My Profile, and put that info into the signature line box at the bottom of that page. I hope this helps!!
Barbara,
I tried this, but instead of the actual picture, I just got a picture link, did I do something wrong?

Look through this one to get a better understanding of why food rewards are used (I don't think you will find anyone here, including Ed, the owner of this board, who does not use food rewards as a training tool)
Theory of Motivation in Dog Training
Here's the e-book of marker training:

PS beautiful pup you have there!

Lynn,
I was under the impression that one had to use food as a reward because most dogs are not motivated enough by praise alone. At point my girl is good with praise, so I don't really want to add in food, until it becomes necessary. So, I guess I am just now sure where to start, if I don't have food as the reward for teaching new behaviors. Does that make sens?

Yes, I understand what you are saying. But until you try using food, you will not know if it is a more powerful motivator than praise. Food is used as a reward, not a bribe, in marker training.
You may have one of those rare dogs who will work just as hard for praise as food; if you do, there is no reason why you cannot use marker training and use your praise as the reward.

Even if the dog works well for praise, she will work better for: a) food; and b) a toy if she likes to retrieve.
Also learning is much faster and surer with very good food rewards, and with food more reps in shorter time.
Once you start reading or meeting others with high level training you'll get beyond the praise based training.
not that praise is bad, mind you. those who can praise well can often play well, in a motivating way, with a dog, often with a prey object like a tug or a ball on string or a soft frisbee.
So pro food is not against praise.

Andrew,
That makes perfect sense. I will start my food reward training in a week or so. Thank you again for your help.

Andrea,
Congrads on your new pup.
What now indeed!
Do you know anything at all about DS's?
For instance, you do understand they are a high energy breed, don't you?
Are you interested in dog sports?
In other words, what are you plans for the sweetheart?
Depending on your end goal you can start shaping that behavior now through play.
