"I'm leaning towards the terror vet trip theory too."
Stress is a factor (many researchers say a major factor) in bloat.

just called the vet and relayed all the symptoms to her and she said to keep an eye on him and give him a 10mg dose of peptid AC with his next meal. and if the diarrhea comes back to bring him in. she said that it was probably due to the stress of him visiting the vet and that the burping was like regurgitation of his food as opposed to vomitting. they have people on call until 10pm so if things worsen tonight when we get home we have resources to reach. in any case i'll be keeping a close eye on louie. thanks for the heads up Connie. we really appreciate you (and everyone else's) advice and support.
i also submitted a fecal sample this morning and the results will come back tomorrow morning so maybe that will give us more insight also.
Louie!

Simon, that last time he vomited was it just bile?
what colour was it?
You said it was just before he went to bed, so how many hours after his last meal did he vomit?
Did he do any heaving of any kind or did he vomit fairly quickly without any indications?
I know the odd time that Tucker has thrown up he has at least 15 seconds of heaving before actually vomiting anything, kind of a full body type heave.
Don't complain....TRAIN!!! |

I don't know what bile looks like. His vomit was a small mucousy puddle. Maybe a little pumpkin in there too.
In any case, Louie didn't vomit over the weekend and there was less lip smacking/tongue rolling around in mouth AND his poop went back to normal logs. As you can guess we feel much better about things. Thanks to all (big shout out to Connie as usual) for the concern and the advice on what to look out for/what it might be/etc.

Louie vomited this morning around 5:30am and again at 6:00am. This was the first time it was more in volume than the small regurgs before. My wife woke up for the first one after she heard crunching of bone as Louie was trying to eat up his vomit. The 2nd time we woke up more aware after the first cleanup.
Here's a picture of what came up: (white, foamy, and a few chunks of chicken... not to mention the chicken smell)
http://www.rocafella.org/louie/louie-puke.jpg
He had a 9pm meal last night of 8 oz of raw chicken thigh. We've been feeding him ground beef (raw) and pumpkin in the morning and chicken at night. The only other change in diet/behavior I can think of is that we started him on Sentinel 2 days ago after getting results of his heartworm test (negative).
I was scouring some threads about regurg vs vomit and read that sick dogs usually don't try to eat it back up. Louie was trying to eat his vomit back up... gross I know. I'm not sure what that means or if that even applies in this case.
If you have any insights on this, I'd love to hear it. Thanks.
Louie!

If this vomiting is new to Louie, last few weeks or so, I might be thinking that he has a partial bowel obstruction. In general, I'd feed things like backs as opposed to thighs for a while, to see if it might sort itself out. Time will tell. TOday, I would feed him no breakfast---sounds like his dinner didn't make it thru the pipes. If he is willing to eat, and not depressed, I would feed light meals (popsicles to lick, chicken noodle soup )
and watch him. If he becomes mopey and continues to vomit his meals you will have to take him in, even though he hates it, so they can check for pre-bloat/intussception/foreign body(stuck bone?) etc.
The Heartworm medications do upset some dogs.
Ground beef gives my IG diarrhea/ makes my ACDx, who can digest the most vile things, queasy enough that he eats grass and occasionally vomits.

Louie's not acting depressed or mopey this morning. I skipped his usual morning meal of ground beef and pumpkin (10oz) and gave him 2 oz of steak instead (which he ate). Am thawing the chicken backs (and ground chicken) now and will give it a shot later today. Also making chicken soup for him as well. Is there a special chicken noodle soup for dogs recipe?
He had a normal albeit smaller poop this morning around 8:00am, and he's taking his after meal nap now. I'm working from home today so I can monitor him and will report back if anything changes. Thanks betty.
Switching back to kibble won't help this at all right?

I would not go back to kibble, as that would likely make things worse.
Simon, what I do for chicken broth is to take chicken with no skin, or very little and boil it. I save and cool the water it was boiled in to give as baited water. I then have fed the boiled chicken and have given really soupy, boiled down rice for times when the gut was inflamed from diarrhea.
I have also used plain Pedilyte to add to the chicken water to keep the dogs electrolytes in check and to help keep the dog hydrated.
I find that this is much better than buying the chicken broth from the store( premade) because those usually contain onion in them, which is on the do not feed list. Plus it is high sodium, also not good.
Usually most dogs love the baited chicken water and if that stays down, feed some of the boiled chicken and rice in small amounts.
I hope this helps.
