I have a double sided tag, one side has 2 phone numbers, address and email. The other side says, "I am microchipped, please call" then the 1-800 number of the chip company, under that is the actual microchip number. I have more contact info listed with the chip company, and they are authorized to give it to people who call in, or take the person's info and call me.

Our club has a "lost dog" handout that gives all the steps to take if your dog is missing.
One of the suggestions someone made in the section on prevention, safety, etc., is to say "reward" on the tag, but NOT where it's visible at a glance .... on the underside of the tag. (Obviously, you don't want to encourage theft with a visible "reward" promise.)

I used to have "reward" on the back, but then with my last dog, I changed it to "I need MEDS" (because he did), and I also thought that might be a good reason to return a dog.
In Toronto, there was a lot of dog "ransom", and here still, there is a dog theft every couple months in the paper. I might go back to using "reward". One time when I had a place engrave it, the girl thought it was my dog's name

I LOVE Boomerang tags.... Amazing. And they are guaranteed. How can you beat that? Koenig has a brass rivet, if it ever gets to the point it's unreadable they will replace it. Sara has one of the Boomerang collar tags, and we love it! It is a bit tight on her collar, but it's not coming off!!!!

I discovered Boomerang tags a couple years ago. I love them! They are very sturdy and well-made, with lots of room for engraving. The engraving is very high-quality. They're also noiseless and, since they don't dangle, there's no chance of them getting caught on something. There are a variety of styles to choose from, depending on the type of collar you are using. I seem to recall they were reasonably priced, too.

We have the dogs name, our numbers, the vets number and my folks number.
We also have a separate tag for the lake with that number, a good friend who lives in the areas number and our vets number.
I used to have collars with the number embroidered on it just in case their tags came off.
Loki was lost once for almost two miserable worried weeks, because my teenage nephew left the gate open.
He was only a block from our house, and despite the signs both I and the man who had him, put up, it took two weeks to find him.
Now they are chipped too!

Meredith - I am ordering two of those tags (HATE the noisy ones!) and Connie, I'm including the vet's number!!! This little stray's story line is getting better by the moment Michael!
The noisy ones let me know where the dog is In case I forget. or if she might have a problem in the middle of the night

I like the jingle, too ( ), but I might find that the rabies tag and the Spot-Lit will suffice. I really like that Boomerang one!

I just got those Spot Lits too, love em!! With all the equipment and tags hanging around my boys necks, it would almost take a mechanic to weed through the artillery and find a phone number.
I sure like the looks of those plates. Would be one less dangler. And they're all chipped too.
Great story Michael and what an excellent discussion it sparked.

Meredith, thanks for this link. I was just wondering about a noiseless tags for the dogs collars. This is perfect! Thank you!
I just wonder if it will fit on the thick leather collars from
LB ( the Amish made ones)?
