bundling up for winter walks (1'' of snow today at training!) is getting annoying. By the time I'm dressed and ready to go the dogs are BURSTING with excitement.
It is certainly challenging first thing in the morning when you are trying to get the puppy out the door asap! I'm glad that my neighbours aren't within sight of my yard, because at 6am every morning I run out the door with one boot on, half a jacket and my pants falling off... holding a furry writhing eel covered in razors (at least that's what it feels like when he's DESPERATE to get down!)
Will try the "not going until you behave" method tomorrow. That sounds like a good fix for this dog. He can control what happens by his behavior. That's right up his alley, a great suggestion.
I had to do the same thing with the prong. Before he learned that routine it was like trying to wrestle a greased pig to get it on him and out the door.
I allow some minor wiggling and vibrating and the little bit of low pitched whining the Loki does, as long as he is still enough to easily get his leash on.

Agreed! 11 years was kind of a long time to get control. I think Randy's plan will probably save you a year or two.
I don't get hip checked, but I get a cold wet nose to the back of the knee if I'm walking too slowly to suit my pup. That is probably equally "fresh".
I get the cold wet nose on my mouth when I am tying my shoes. I have, however gotten Maggie to sit for the prong and leash when I first pick it up, till after it is on. Now I am thinking of working backward to making her sit/wait while I get MY gear on...the nose thing is gross.

This is what I mean by BURSTING to go outside. All the pent up energy. Koenig will blast through the house until asked to be still. A quiet low platz always does the trick. Then Sara (english pointer) will sit next to him vibrating/shivering/looking like she's having a seizure till we are all geared up with collars/coats/leashes on.
DId Randy's method this morning. He sat there shaking after one" go back into the mudroom"
Made a half-hearted grab for my cover-all pants as they were going on, then sat back down and vibrated.
Pink was a little better with the cows too, which was cool.
