I am actually very excited that you started this thread because it made me look up the goughnut website and see that they now have a ball which I was wishing for when earlier this year. I will be ordering the ball here shortly.
I thought they were pricey too but like you had spent way more than that on toys that didn't last and figured the warranty made it worth it.

Have you tried the Cuz? Balls with feat that have a squeaker in them. My dogs love these, and although they will shred soft toys and stuff, they like to just squish the Cuz over and over instead of trying to tear it apart. The squeaker is quite loud, so I tend to only give it when I'm not going to be around, but it's also robust and lasts a LONG time. Which is probably why my dogs don't kill the toy, they like things that squeak and as long as it's making noise, they tend to not shred it.

I have these and my one girl Maggie absolutely LOVES them. They are pretty annoying sometimes and she isn't much of a chewer so I am not sure if they can with stand the jaw power of your pooch. They are not that expensive so its worth a shot.

I'd be chiming in with an enthusiastic endorsement of Elk Antler chews...my four dogs all love them and they last forever.
But last week, one of mine cracked a tooth on it.
I still think they are great chews (so does our vet)---but probably only for dogs that you know aren't the kind that want to crush everything with their back teeth. My other dogs haven't had any issues with them. Anyway, I suppose every chew toy comes with some risk of something or other.
(our standard poodle's favorite toy is an old tube sock tied in a knot. They don't last more than a week, but they are free.)

I forgot about the Cuz ball! This is also a very big favorite here too. The squeaker is very loud, but they go nuts for this too.
This is another favorite: http://leerburg.com/1273.htm
Great for getting the dog to retrieve, out, and chase.
This frisbee is what I have used for recall work to because my female would do anything for this frisbee!

My dogs are also a big fan of the Cuz.
How old is Vader?
My pup also loved frozen raw beef ribs. I would cut them into individual sections (one rib bone plus the meat) and freeze them. When he was teething I would just pop one out of the fridge and they would last him about 30 minutes. He never really chewed the bone, just the meat.

Same as what CJ said.... http://leerburg.com/1146.htm are pretty amazing. Koenig is a total monster in his crate, and these keep him busy. I can use the treat ball refill that leerburg (or PetCo, in a pinch!) sells, which come in different flavors, or stuff it with food and freeze it. It's a nice switch from the black kongs and cuz balls, which we also have.

When my boy was going through the "jaws of alligator" phase I found that the Tug-n-Jug was the only thing that survived (largest size black kong failed miserably, the everlasting treat products didn't do much better for us )
http://leerburg.com/1149.htm
Mine has a rope however, not the rubber thing, however even without that just stick a golf ball in there and it'll work the same I also liked the Twist and Treat by the same company (I know leerburg had it for a while but I can't find it) since it let out enough of the treat that my dog didn't feel the need to go through the rubber to get to it. Only problem with that toy was that he saw me open it once...and figured out how to open it with his paws instantly. The Tug-N-Jug is difficult to open even with opposable thumbs so while he know the botton unscrews he also knows he can't open it.
for hardcore chewing dogzilla chew bones are softer rubber and seem to be less prone to puncture (which tends to be the first step to tearing and destruction lol)

I've had very good luck with both the Orbee and the Everlasting toys. My dog will pull the continents off the Orbee ball, but once he's done doing that he just carries it around and chews on it.
When he was a puppy he destroyed a couple of the red Kongs, but he did okay with the black ones. I did have one unusual problem with Kongs though (and still do): If I get the really big ones, Murphy (like his dad AND granddad) will get his bottom jaw stuck in the hole, and not just once. It's really dorky, but since he can't get it off by himself, I just opted for slightly smaller Kongs.
