Love me, love my dogs.....fur and all.
Put a pole up and call it a Christmas tree.
It's called a festivous tree if you need a proper phrasing. Decorate it with twinkling lights, put an angel on top, wahla.
Where's the goose for diner?

Betty you're too funny. My thoughts on dog hair after I've done my best to get rid of it knowing full well that non-dog people will still find it: "They live here, you don't"

Pulled a brand new pair of black jeans straight out of the box earlier this evening... carefully stepped into them holding them as high off the floor as to still allow my foot access to the pant leg. Walked in front of the mirror and was pretty happy until I took them off. FURRRRR JEANS. OMG.
Betty, if the ol' guy's eyesight is ANYWHERE near as bad as mine is - and I'm far younger than is he - he won't see a darn thing. If he does, give the fur ball a name and tell him to not pet the sleeping puppy.
I have NEVER seen a dog that sheds like Falcon. "Poof". "Poof". I don't know how the dog isn't bald considering all the hair blowing around hither and yon...

It is so great to hear there are others out there who live with a 'carpet'. I can't believe how much hair Jethro sheds off in a day. I've started brushing him with the rubber brush thingy everyday just to see how much will come out. He seems to have an undercoat of wooly hair, and an overcoat of longer, smoother hair. It is the undercoat that seems to be coming out. I was wondering if he was missing something in his diet. It's not that cold here, so it wouldn't feel like a real winter.
I've taken to wearing denim everything because the hair sheds off it the best. I live in a city, but I dress like I live on a farm.

I used to live in fleece stretch pants, basically a thick long underwear that slid easily under chore-pants for outdoors. They are so intertwined with white Pinker hair that they have become ITCHY.
Serious marker training to vacuum the dog is the next trick for us. Tried it before, could see major resentment brewing, gave up. Despite steak, thought I might get bit. But it doesn't hurt, calves love it.
He's going to learn vacuum next.

My Mom has a Shiba Inu mix that sheds like crazy.
They bought these...air cleaning machines for when my Step-dad's daughter comes to visit. (severe allergies) They work great but I don't know what kind, and if I remember correctly, they are somewhat expensive.
When I visit,I brush her outside with one of those metal brushes they use on horses. You could build a whole new dog...

We have a huge problem with hair.
We bathe Eddie every 2 weeks and use a professional blower on him at the pet wash place....I rake and furminate...we feed raw....we are still drowning in hair.....sigh.
I've not found a solution yet.....
I don't understand how he is not bald yet!!!!

Any brush recommendations? I would really like something that can rake out that undercoat. He feels so soft and smooth after brushing, and he is loving it. I've noticed since I started brushing him once a day, he is choosing to lay close to me when I am in my chair instead of going off and laying down across the room. Could there be a connection? He just seems a little more attuned to me. Another example: I have an indoor leash for him that I can easily slip over his head without him needing a collar. When he is offering unwanted barking, (after I have said, Enough!) I bring out the leash and tether him to my chair or use it to lead him to his crate to relax. This morning he was barking and I picked up the leash and as I moved toward him he headed off for his crate and put himself in. Later he came out and planted himself by my feet.
I've also started reading Calming Signals and am using them to help me communicate with Jethro... something is definitely happening to bring my dog closer to me.
I've also started listening to Ed's podcasts and taking his philosophy to heart - of building my bond with my dog in the house, through subtle distinctions of who is responsible for access to resources.
I suppose it is all contributing. It is a wonderful feeling.

The furminator is great for getting the undercoat out. But if you over use it shedding can get worse because it starts to strip the hair.
I am glad the bonding process is going well your dog, that always feels good!

The brush I use most often is a plain old pin brush. The one with the tiny knobs on the ends of the tines. Work from the skin out in the opposite direction of the fur, in layers. Does that make sense?
