Good question.
I love Washington state.
Liberal enough not to have big brother breathing down your neck at every turn, but not so liberal that I can't own, and carry, my firearms.
My non-conventional family doesn't stand out too much in a crowd, and it saves my son from some of the harassment he'd receive in a more conservative state.
The scenery is beautiful, and if you love the outdoors, there's really almost no place better to live. We have rainforests, deserts, beaches, mountains and glaciers. In once state.
On the flip side, the weather sucks, and I'll probably die in a lahar from Mt Rainier.

I'm with you 100% Aaron!
I'm born and raised in Western Washington. I'm not sure what I'd do w/o seeing 'the mountain' (Mt. Ranier, for all you non-natives out there, is simply called 'the mountain') every time the cloud cover parts. It's rarely humid, the natural vegetation in the NW can't be beat. If you want dry out from the rain, or would like 4 clear cut seasons, head over to the East side of the state for rolling hills, wheat fields, and SUN. (and desert like conditions at times)
There is rock climbing, white water sports, equestrian sports, hiking to your hearts content and your body's limit, options are endless...and several great dog clubs are around!
Love Washington. Then again, I really really love the woods.

The weather here in the Kootenays was a LOT hotter in the summer than I had anticipated. My first move to BC was out to the Island, where the climate is "the best in Canada". Wouldn't you know it, that first winter, they had record snows since 1965! It supposedly never snows there. The next year, I move here, a huge ski/snowboard community... we had ONE major snow, just as I arrived last year before Christmas, the rest of the winter was nothing really. Crazy weather everywhere due to climate change.
My ideal place would be winter never below 0 Celsius, and summer never above 22 Celsius... I'm pretty sure Ireland fits that bill, so it gets a point.
I have also just always been so drawn to it. Sad how deforested it is, but beautiful landscape none the less... and awesome accents! Plus I am pretty sure my skills are transferable there with no hassle.
But back to #1 - dog sport in Ireland?
And the rest of you - where would you move?...
*just added* AND WHY?

Right the heck where I live! Voted top place to live in the world! We have gorgeous ocean and mountains, mild winters, if you want snow just drive 45min up the mountains. Tons of things to do for whatever ur interested in from arts, to outdoors, very dog friendly! Diverse culture. Cute fisherman villages to ski resorts to posh mansion estates. Rainforest, beautiful scenery everywhere you look! People are friendly, never boring always stuff to do! Very open and accepting culture. Lots of doggy services galore! Its a dogs paradise from beaches to trails to swimming in the ocean...
oh the downside? Right well dont even think about buying a house for you and ur dogs unless you have $750 000, this would get you an average 2-3 bedroom one level house. So I dont think this is where I will stay forever unless I win the lottery, but even still being from Alberta my heart longs for cold winters and countryside, a simpler more peaceful life. Thinking somewhere else in B.C, would never leave B.C! Beautiful B.C!!!!
old age means realizing you will never own all the dogs you wanted to- unknown |

I laughed so loud I scared the dog.

I would have to beg to differ on the dog friendly bit. Coming from Toronto (which I now understand to be a truly dog friendly city), I was expecting BC to be perfect for living with dogs, for a lot of the reasons mentioned above.
However, it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to find a rental place to live with a dog, in the 3 places I've lived in BC. There are streets, even in my small town, where you can't even walk a dog on a leash. Most of the parks prohibit dogs as well.
Vancouver was voted most livable city, but by "The Economist", also on that list were Toronto and Calgary - 2 places NOT famous for dog sport or climate. I know one of the factors in the list you mention was least likelihood for terrorist threat, which is why I suspect Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Australia filled it up. There are lots of lists out there based on quality of living and other factors, with very different results.
Don't get me wrong, I love BC. Environment is beautiful here, but let's give that credit to Mother Earth. The bottom line in BC, is that it is so da*n expensive, you can barely survive. Rent in my small town of 10,000 mirrors rent in downtown Toronto - but with none of the jobs to match!
And I just have to add again how pissed off I am about the general "we love dogs" attitude, when really BC just likes the "idea" of dogs; because they match so nicely with the hikers and outdoorsy types in the pictures.

Idaho remains number one with me.
Great gun laws, natural distrust of the government by the majority of the population which keeps the concepts of independence and freedom more important here than security, so no "nanny state".
Great hunting and fishing, very homogeneous population which keeps societal friction to a minimum, very low crime.......I'm never moving!
And I even ran for office here ( at the County level ) and assumed a County elected position, I intend to be part of the solution here and I'm behind this State 100%.
