Sorry, can’t weigh in on the early neutering as I always wait as long as possible if I have the choice and Vince was just done when I got him at almost 10 months.
Thanks for the input! I'm glad to hear you don't think it's a deal breaker. He is predicted to be a very large dog, according to the resuce 100-120 lbs as an adult. I'll meet him tomorrow and get a better idea of his structure, and personality- and ultimate adult size.
Aaron, thanks for the advice. You're right, there are certain things we can never control, it's important to control what we can. And thanks to others who have experience with early spay/neuter.
I've missed having a really large dog around. I'll keep you posted.
I neutered my dog at 6 months, before I read much on leerburg =(
He is only 11 months now, but he has a lot of Bone/Joint problems, including Pano, that neutering probably made worse. He is very tall and lanky compared to his Dad and Granddad, who were both about 120- 140 pounds but stockier. If I could take it back, I would have waited. With all that said, I don't think that alone would deter me from taking in the pup. Capone is a great dog, and I do love that he doesn't mark anything =) Can't wait to see pics! Good luck!
Surgery of any kind is best avoided. If a person is a decent trainer with a quality dog that gets good exercise there is probably no reason to ever neuter a male-or a female either, if an owner is that committed.
I'm not that good an owner.
