I like that he gives both sides. I like that he has letters that go back and forth between a PETA worker and a small farmer. And he ends on the farmer's note. He even goes into the problems with stopping factory farming. So it's not an entire book of animal abuse. I guess that's what I like about it. That it's more about public safety (like influenzas) and environmental damage than poor animal welfare. It covers the poor welfare, no doubt, but I just don't feel it's as shocking and forceful as PETA/HSUS is.

All I really felt was important was the food safety, public safety, and environmental damage, haha. Maybe it's because I haven't finished it, but there's been nothing entirely persistant about government in it (so far).
Eta. My memory sucks, but I don't actually remember him talking about government at all.

That is the main problem. Not only is there no way to keep up with demand, there is demand all the time. Chickens don't naturally lay eggs year round, but you bet people want eggs all winter long. A heritage turkey farmer could never keep up with demand during Thanksgiving. They would have to limit to how many turkeys they have available, which might not be a lot.
The movie is really good. I was impressed by the acting. I read "Animals in Translation" about 5 or 6 years ago, and told people about it all the time.

And I also wish there was a "Like" button.
Katie, I don't think Aaron was / meant to and I know I wasn't commenting on the book - just one of those "wandering ideas" which is inspired by another comment or thought expressed here. Didn't mean to hijack or derail your thread in any way!
I'll definitely look into the book and I think Temple is an amazing, gifted woman. Love her insight!
