Dana,
I hope you like Les, he has my recommendation 100%. He will tell it like it is. I should probably say I am a bit partial to him as I ended up getting a puppy from him and he is the training director at the club in Olympia. He knows dogs, also knows Shade as she is a club member although she's recently been doing more ring work. Nothing against Shade, I really like her as a person, they just have slightly different training styles and I personally prefer Les'.
Before I met him I couldn't find any bad reviews on him and after meeting him I only have good things to say about him. I would choose Les over the other PPD link I gave. I have personally seen him work with people and their dogs and get them to the level they are capable of.

Since Aaron hasn't posted yet- I'll go ahead and speak. I'm pretty sure you'll hear some strong recommendations against Ron Pace. If you want more info, I don't have anything other then second hand, but I'm sure Aaron would not mind a PM.

Kelly,
Just reading your comment is enough for me. That and the fact that I think his $1000 obedience lesson requirement is a rip-off.
I will see if I can catch up with Aaron for his thoughts.
Thanks again.

Poor Dana.
I might have crashed their inbox with my thoughts on Ron Pace.

Not at all, Aaron! I appreciate the insight that you and everyone else has given me. Along with the reservations I already had you reinforced that this was not the person my Mal needs to go to. I don't want to take his wonderful nature, big heart and drive and see it destroyed.
Thanks Aaron & everyone!

Lol Aaron.
In addition to the things you've told me you'd experienced first hand, I have a friend who used him to train her (late) SAR dog. He said the dog could NOT be trained with food or toys.
Huh? Umm.... ok. whatever. I'm gonna go train with Shade now.

Yup.
He has very strict rules about that. Any dog over six months of age cannot be rewarded with anything except verbal praise and perhaps petting. No toys, no food.

Of course, so would I :-)

JD and I are off to Olympia this morning to meet with Les.
Thanks everyone for the input - it's been a great help with my decision.
I'll let you know how it goes and if I get any pics I'll be sure to post them.
