Thanks for sharing these beautiful photos Olivia. I agree, these photos are going to be priceless to the little girl.
You are such a special person, I commend you for doing something so hard to do, and yet so worthy, and precious.
I think the most important thing we can ever do, is to show compassion and kindness towards others, especially situations as important as this one. Bless your heart!
Thanks everyone...I really didn't expect to get so many heartfelt thank you's. To me, it was just the right thing to do in the situation. I can't imagine turning them away because they had no money....it makes me sick to think that someone would put financial gain before a project like this but I guess that's how the world is. I mainly did them for the little girl so that she would know who her mom is. I like the idea of writing down my thoughts while shooting and will likely include that. I'm getting a professional mounted album made of all the images and will be able to include text so I'll definitely write her something. Please pray for the little girl, she has no family who is fit to take her (dad is in prison for child molestation and her only surviving grandmother is a drug addict). I would adopt that child in a heartbeat if it was at all possible.
At this point we aren't sure. She is currently staying with a close family friend since her mom is too sick to care for her. I think the mom's half sister may try to adopt her, but they are poor too and aren't sure how they will afford another child. She has had such a rough life so far..she deserves a good stable home so badly but I'm really afraid for her. I think they are waiting to see what happens with the mom before deciding. I told my husband that I'll be darned if that little girl ends up in the system...we already have two boys and can't afford another mouth to feed either, but I'm watching to see what happens with her. If my husband gets his overseas contract next month we would have the money to help out...we will wait and see I guess.
The child will treasure those photos. They will someday have a huge impact in her memories and feeling about her mother, and in her own self image as a loved person. I don't think the potential impact of your work can be overstated.
It would be ideal if the mother could put in her will exactly who/where she wants the child to go. I'd be very concerned if this is not outlined prior to her death, the child will quickly end up in the system.
Olivia, if that is something you are given serious consideration to, I recommend you take the Foster Parent courses offered by your local community college.
Because the child has living relatives, you would likely not be able to adopt the child before having fostered her for a specified period of time, and generally, those courses are required to become a foster parent.
