You can fly me to Canada if you'd like. I've never been there and I'd be a great distraction for your pup!
I'll keep that in mind... right now i'm a little lite on the green backs, well in canada its more of a rainbow of colors
Yeah if i had a cat it would provide a great distraction, they have one at the local pet food/treat supply store near me and Kasper used to be scared senseless he wouldn't walk down any of the aisles if he wasn't sure of the cats location. Now they can be 2 feet from each other and he doesn't even notice the cat.
The moving toy seems like a good idea, because the stationary distractions are not really cutting it, once he realized they are inanimate he just ignores them which is the idea i guess but i think i need to turn it up a notch. Maybe an RC car, the RC helicopter sounds expensive and probably difficult to fly... but also lots of fun too.
Actually the helicopter is a little one and it was only something like $30, so it wasn't too bad (and it keeps my husband out of my hair at times, too).

Good question. I've been stuck in too because everything is covered in ice and we both took a header the other day and it has only gotten worse.
I leave the trash accessible and put coins in my dryer. I also train in front of my bay window where there is a large tree which has a couple of squirrels playing throughout the day.
Maybe I'm adding too much distraction because I just was working with him and he couldn't focus at all....so I ended the session (if you can call it that...30 seconds) with a rousing rendition of Ole Susannah which promptly put him to sleep. I feel so bad about not being able to get him a good run in that perhaps I'm doing overkill with the short motivational training periods...72 times a day.
I have purchased a treadmill (hence the lite on the green backs) for that very reason... it has been a life saver. My boy runs about 4.5-5miles a day (over 2x 30min sessions) on it and is focused and determined the entire time. it was a lot easier than i thought to show him how to use it, it took about 2-3 days of building speed and duration before he was running 30 min and getting a great workout from it.
maybe try to tone down the distraction and do just Micheal Ellis style engagement training in very short spurts around the new distraction before thinking about behaviors... at least that's what works with my rotty and new distractions, if you take her to a new distraction or dont get her in the right mind set first she might do the behaviors, but begrudgingly and not with a ton of enthusiasm.
Check in Toys R Us. I got my godson one for Christmas there. He managed to kill it after about a week of flying/crashing it into walls. His control skills needed some work but he had fun while it lasted.
If that doesn't work out, you wouldn't have to fly me to Canada as I'm already in Toronto. :-)
