The problem with Lyme is that it can have so many differnt symptoms that its over looked alot. Acute lamness with or without swelling, with no physical explination is possible lyme symptom. It not being tick season is not really an issue the dog could have been bit in the summer or fall and not shown a lamness symptom til now. Lyme can effect just about every system in the body be it dog or human, so there could be other underlying symptoms that go unseen. If the dog has been vaccinated they have to do a speacial blood test (more expensive) for lyme, if a regular test is done on a vaccinated dog it will more than likely come back false positive. Im not saying thats what it is, just that it is something to look into seeming they have not been able to come up with any other explination.
this isn't a reason for lameness but a way to fix the granuloma. We used to inject directly into the granuloma vetalog and depo medrol. Depo is a behavioral modifier and will give the dog a sense of well being, the vetalog treats the itchy or whatever feeling they have in that area. They would have to check with their vet or new one about their feelings with this protocol but has always worked for us.
Another approach is accupuncture. They are using it alot in lameness issues in horses and actually have vets specializing in it. If this were a puppy, I might have thought OCD or pano.
