I did not change anything other than her food. She just started this sunday. I am very confused on why. She has always tried to eat her stool from the first day I got her. Oh I did get her a bigger crate, got her a 600 series crate from petmate. She was in a 500 series. I did this about 2 weeks ago. She used to go outside after eating and exercise and sleep right away and pee and poo immediatly. Then on sunday after she would pee she started to play outside pulled me on the leash up and back in the yard. After for about 20 mins no poo. So I brought her inside and then she went in her crate. The next day I was outside with her for about 1 and an half hours. Nothing I brought her in she pooed in her crate. Other than the food and crate there was no changes in her schedule.
The puppy is only 4 monthes, and about 40lbs. You think the crate is too big? When I first get a new puppy I also throw the food all over the crate. I was told that a puppy will no go to the bathroom where she eats. A breeder told me this. I did it for the first week then stopped because she was doing good. Should I start doing that again maybe?
Tracy Everytime she went outside when she was going. I praised her and yes went back in the house. She got a treat when she went into her crate when I told her too.
Thanks, Joseph!
Here is something to try. When you go outside with her on leash, stand there like a statue. No talking, no playing, no....anything. Take her to a place where she has pooped in the past. If she pees, don't make a big fuss, just keep waiting. You may be there a long time.
After she poops, go nuts with praise and treats. Then play, go for a walk, etc.... When you get back in the house, play some more.
Dogs can learn pretty quickly that doing their business is a one way ticket back inside....stopping any fun they are having. You need to help her understand that going potty *starts* the fun.
