In the trade show part of my convention, Purina, Hills, Royal Canin and Nutro were there -- no one was talking to them, ever. I talked to all of them about the pentobarbitol assay that Charlie Snyder posted. Their reps all seemed dumbfounded. I really don't think they knew about that.
I was surprised to hear of Giardia being on raw chicken. I had not considered that as a potential source.

Sorry. That was immature.
I was surprised to hear of Giardia being on raw chicken. I had not considered that as a potential source.
My limited understanding is that the source is mainly the bodies of water that the poultry may have been communally immersed in. (This is one of the Smart Chicken brand's points of favor: dry-air chilling instead.) I've read in several places that thorough rinsing washes off some very high percentage (I forget ... 95%?) of surface protozoa. I don't have time right now to find that material, but I can later today.
