"inert" is too funny!
We had a basset hound that was inert. She succumbed to the terminal disease
"sleeping under baby sitter's car". My son was heartbroken.
Leonbergers would be high on my list for nonreactive. Mine is practically inert.
LOL! The only dog that ever bit me was a Schnauzer
My list is MUCH longer (thank working at a vet for that)
Cocker, Chow, Lab (golden and lab r), Chi's, Husky, Springer, Setters, Cocker, Cocker, Chow...lol. Many other breeds as well, and lots of close calls, but I'm just turned off Spaniels as a family dog in general now.
Leonbergers fall into the same amazing class as Newfies. Family guardians, right there. Great dogs, now I'm sad I didn't think to list them!

The best dog I ever owned was a Cocker, so maybe I'm biased. And she grew up with crazy me and never so much as grumbled.
Poor Cockers have Lady and the Tramp to blame for their overbreeding and the destruction of their temperaments. I wouldn't put a poorly bred Cocker over a poorly bred Lab or GSD or any dog for that matter.
IME the worst dogs are the ones that have been overbred so much. Chihuahuas are probably number one on my list, followed by the rest of the toy breeds due to the babying they receive. Chows. Goldens. Labs. Again, all of the breeds that have been overbred year after year after year.
Leo's, Newfs, Cavaliers, Pekes, Pugs, Beagles, Bostons, Eskies, Bichons, Bassets, Clumbers, and Frenchies. I am sure I could think of more, but as a rule, most of these are pretty bomb proof. (with the usual "disclaimer" LOL)
That's why the Beagle thread was so very troublesome for me.
We have an 11yr old E.Setter. If you move her bowl, she reacts. Tell her its time to get off the couch and go outside, she doesnt.
That seems unusual for the breed. I have been around English Setters for about 10 years now and aside from one male that can be reactive around strange dogs, they are all pretty much non-reactive. Is she a bench or field setter? Most of the ones I am around are bench so that might explain it.
She just likes to eat Ingrid. And sleep on the couch. She's as indifferent to dogs and gentle with people as any dog could be.
She's from Sett'r ridge in Washington. Retired show dog that we got when she was 7.
