SOME dogs do understand "infant" and will not harm the very young and helpless.
Malamutes are NOT in this category. In our practice we had a terrible incident with a malamute and a child. PLEASE KEEP HIM AWAY FROM YOUR BABY.

Move out TODAY unless you KNOW the dog will not be back. This is seriously ignorant and irresponsible of the dog's owners not to "get" a warning like that.

Nothing based on the O.P. says that Niomi's excellent suggestions would be followed. I am sticking with what I posted.
Agreed. I've never met a Malamute that I liked (sorry to those who love them). Your child needs to be safe from this dog and I agree that it doesn't sound like the owner is going to do anything to change the behavior.

I DO hope this mom signs back on and lets us know they are moving out. I know we came across pretty strong, and I can only hope she understands that is due to how seriously we all took her post not because we were jumping on her.

This shouldn't even be a question a mother would ask!
By doing nothing but move the baby away from the dog you've shown the dog that his word/action is the controlling power.
Move or get rid of the dog.
If the owner insists on bringing it in, shoot the owner.
If you allow it, shoot yourself!!!!!!

I hope she tells us, too, but I have zero regrets about making the answers as serious as a heart attack. There can be no room for doubt, no question at all, IMHO.
In fact, I applaud her for finding the board and posting.

Brittinay,
The ONLY solution is for this child and dog to not be in the same house. Period. You have been given one "I'm warning you" from this dog, and you've been given the second "I don't care" warning from your friends. (It is their house and their dog, so I can't really fault them).
It's not their house, it's a shared house hold actually. We pay 600 + to live here and we all moved in at the same time.

Hello everyone,
Thank you for you comments no matter how "harsh" they are. I am Very worried about my own son which is why I found a thread. I have been around many dogs in my life and bradley has been around quite a few before and since the dogs attack. He seems to have no ill side effects of the attack which has rested my worried soul for now. We aren't moving out (sorry to everyone that thinks we should) but the dog has been removed from the house. The dog isn't returning while us and the baby are in the house and that is my rule. There is a point where we are going to be returning from a trip to Reno in august, (leaving in june). They are discussing bringing the dog back while we are gone and then discussing this again. If anyone has some paperwork or articles on "Malamutes" and children attacks. They would be much appreciated.

We were only suggesting to move out if the dog was going to live there, too.
If the dog is gone from the house, then problem solved.
Otherwise, there should be no discussion here. The dog attacked a baby. It no longer gets to be around children. Period.
As a parent, there would be no consideration on my part.

This isn't a malamute thing. This is a dog biting a kid thing.
You shouldn't have to put together a presentation for the people you live with.
The dog will bite the kid again. How bad will it be next time?

I would like to second this.
Michael is absolutely right here. Please, let this not become an issue of disparaging this particular breed.
The owners of this dog, are at fault here, while it is easy to pile blame on the dog, don't kid yourself, the owners were not doing their job.
Some dogs are just not kid friendly.
I am glad to hear the dog is no longer there and that your son is ok. Just be sure that the dog stays away.
