... To improve the head position so that he is holding the head straight up the reward is placed to the left and above his head. It's supposed to help
Did you find that it did?
We are still working on it. It worked at the ME class with the dogs whose head position was very low, the difference was obvious by the end of the week.
I should also straighten out and lift the head up so that he is looking at the side of my face.
Prancing as in lifting front legs nicely, like Marina's dog is doing in this video. Forrest's puppy (in the video I posted earlier in this thread) also moves like that.
I would definitely like more animation. It'll probably get better when we switch to toy rewards. Working on that right now.
I've competed in both AKC obedience and Schutzhund. The prancing can loose points in AKC depending on the judge.
Some look at it as bordering on a lack of control.
Your dog's heeling is sweet right now!
We are doing Schutzhund/IPO and everybody says the judges would forgive a bit of getting out of position for aesthetically pleasing picture. The dog is supposed to "look happy".
Schutzhund isn't as anal in scoring as AKC in the heeling/fuss but be careful you don't mess up the nice heeling you have now.
A toy/tug WILL bring more energy to the work!
