lol. Ross, Aaron and Tracy said it better than I ever could have.
I think Roger is a great name, fwiw.
I have several friends who have names already picked out for their future dogs. I disagree with this, but confess that if I
were ever to have a boxer his/her name would be Dempsey.

This is interesting. I wonder if Roger would be any different if his name was "Kalashnikov" or something a little more Mal-typical, lol.
I think he would--because you would treat him differently, or expect different things from him. You get the dog behavior you expect to get. "Roger" is the name for a buddy. So I'm guessing that's the kind of relationship you want from him.
@Tracy, it's actually slightly more complex than that!
His namesake is my most admired sportsman, Roger Federer. For those of you who don't watch tennis, Federer's trademarks are his remarkable reflexes and agility, as well as a methodical nature that sets him apart from the rest of the pack (punintended?). For example, he was for a long time the only top-level player who did not employ a coach. He is that good, that he can teach himself.
Federer also distinguishes himself with an almost inhuman serenity and calm on the court.
My Roger is certainly methodical. Like, when he chews, he doesn't rip and tear--he unties and disassembles. He's also quite calm for a Mal, without sacrificing the breed's trademark energy level and vocal nature.
Also, we wanted to give him a name that would get some laughs out of my wife's Indian family...so "Raj" is short for Roger.
Although in a sense, your POV came true at the end of the day. I wanted a smart, serious, stable dog, and the name is part of that.
I wonder, if I ever got another dog with a sport in mind, if I would go and name the dog "Sniper" or "Ammo" (two of the names in my brother's FR training group) or if I would just keep my trend of Anglo people names alive.

..double LOL...
My rescue Maine Coon cat came with a Hindu name, "Beena" so since the dog is blue we just kept with the Indian thread since we love India, and named her "Shiva"...
My 2 cents: I ABHOR any "gangsta" sounding names on pit bulldogs -"AK", "Tyson", and yes, I kid you not -"Satan's Bitch"...God, image anyone?
One day I may actually do "Fido"...
There's a bitch on one of the DVDs named "Dayma"...I really like that...

Sure Ross, admit it! You liked my dog so much, you took his name!
Tracy- I was looking for a companion, buddy, low/mod drive , If I change his name now, is there hope for this?
