Can I ask - those of you that feed whole fish, do the dogs smell "fishy" afterwards? Maybe just fish breath for a while?
I have a source coming up of free whole herring, but I hate the smell of fish!
No. Not IME.
(I do have one who has a mildly fishy smell if I use not-deodorized fish oil. I think most do not.)
Chicken backs, $0.30 a pound.
Duck necks, .70 a pound.
Beef heart, $1.20 a pound.
Chicken gizzards, .75 a pound.
Whole turkey on sale, .80 a pound.
Chicken leg quarters, .50 a pound.
Ground beef, 1.75 a pound.
Beef kidney, 1.75 a pound.
Whole frozen sardines, 1.90 a pound.
Green tripe, $2.50 a pound.
I am so jealous of everyone's prices on this board! Not to mention supply...
I am switching Faroh to raw, I'm going to start a thread soon... he's currently in an intermediate home cooked diet. But this thread is definitely helpful!

hardboiled eggs
leftovers of all sorts
Oh, yes, two of my regular items are cooked eggs and leftovers!
I'm always pulling out a dab of this vegetable and that one and the skin from the fish and who-knows-what-all and tossing it into the dog-moosh baggy. Some gets tossed in with yogurt and some ends up in the bait bag! Like a teeny short assembly line.

Brilliant, Connie. Ripley is getting a box ASAP.
A teeny meander and then right back on topic: I used (literally) about a tablespoon a day until the weird no-fish dog was used to it. Even the texture of THK is odd at first.
(But that stuff is so beautiful and bright-colored; it looks and smells like real, fresh food. )
The everyday stuff:
Leg quarters: $.59/lb
Whole fryer chickens: $.59-79/lb
Pork shoulder "picnic roast": $.99/lb
Tom necks: %.70/lb
Tripe/organ mix: $2/lb
The rest I just get it as it comes. My rule for grocery store meat is as long as it is under $1.50/lb, they can have it. Won't pay more than that at the grocery store. But I am able to get all kinds of stuff to add variety from other locations like venison, goat, lamb, turkey, ostrich, lots-a fish... I'll pay more for that since it is not the "staple" of my dogs diet.
