You should be able to find a sitter who will sleep at your house with no problem. We pay around 40 - 50 per day/night. Have them come over a few times before hand to get to know Jeter a bit and vice/versa.
This could be MUCH less stressful on him than the kenneling.
JMHO.

Just want to second (third? fourth?) the house/pet sitter option. $500 seems waaayyyy high, even for a super nice boarding facility. You should be able to find someone that is licensed to take care of the pup's for you in your home.
Good luck!

I pay a little over $100 a day for a bonded long-experienced dog-walking dog-sitting company to have someone sleep at my house every night and also come back three times during the day for walks and potty.
I thought this was terribly spendy until I read this kennel cost. More than I'm paying (in a very expensive tourist area on the coast) for personal attention and keeping my dogs in their own home for the duration.
They now get all excited and happy (the little sh*theads ) when they see the "head sitter" come in our door and realize that I'm leaving for a few days. And they adore the nighttime guy.
Bonded. Insured. Experienced. References. For less $$.
And when I return, my house is cleaner than when I left (although this might not be the usual).
Not to mention that it wasn't left empty and inviting to burglars.

May I just say HOLY COW! I run a boarding kennel upstate.....for two dogs, run three times a day, as you describe for runs and set up for four days...bit over $100. Tax incl and minus 10% for two dogs. Regular rate is $13.50 a day. A vet would run $25 a day and generally the dogs have less room and time running. I am in the country and they have in and out all day and a run time in the yard minimum of 2 times a day. I certainly understand now why so many folks bring their dogs upstate with them and then board with me.
I would hesitate a whole lot more about service for the money than I would worry about DA dogs. I have a kennel full of them right now....three boxers and two pitts. I supervise outtings so they can't fixate on being stupid at the fence. By the second day they are fine. They will all go home tired though!

All this info is very helpful. I am going to do everything I can to try to find a sitter. I spoke to me vet a little while ago and they were able to refer me to someone that will come several times each day to feed and let them out. She will not sleep in my house.
I would prefer if she did because them the dogs are not home alone all night.
But lets say that I cant find someone. Can you tell me what you think I can expect if I have to have Jeter in a facility considering his particular issues?

I can only 5th what others have said about finding a sitter. I used to do this frequently for friends - including my best friend who at one time had 2 Rotties and 2 Goldens (plus I'd take my Springer with me).
Do you have any close friends that your dogs know and accept that might be willing and are capable? I know it's not an easy task to find someone that you trust and is also used to handling large dogs (the main reason my husband and I tend to not take many trips together - plus I just don't like leaving them).
I will go to my grave being known as "The Dog Lady" by Kevin's friends....

"But lets say that I cant find someone. Can you tell me what you think I can expect if I have to have Jeter in a facility considering his particular issues?" end quote
I wouldn't have many (read any) high hopes for anything good coming from it Alec.
Any chance you can take one dog (Jeter) with you?

Maybe I sound too overprotective, I don't know ..... but I agree with Randy. I'd do just about anything to avoid boarding a dog with anxiety and reactivity around dogs.
"My hope is that because he is forced to deal with other dogs being around he becomes desensitized to it and this tums out to be a good experience."
No. Flooding is not my choice, ever. Very slow careful desensitizing at my hands and under my guidance is the best way, IMHO.
"Forced to deal with" (flooding) may work in the hands of extremely good, very experienced dog behaviorists. (Even then, it's better, IMO, to choose methodical desensitizing/counterconditioning.) In a boarding kennel -- for me, personally, it would have to be a real emergency to make me decide on that.
JMO!

Even just to sleep over, eat your food, watch your TV, etc. -- and walking and feeding and playing being the only dog tasks ....
All I really want is a responsible person who I trust to call me immediately if they have any question/fear/doubt about anything, who has and will use the vet's number, and who I know will never use my home as a party venue .....
I don't need (and in fact would never want) someone to "train" my dogs while they were there. I don't care if they spoil them rotten and let them sleep on the couches and beds; all that will return to normal when the mean evil owner comes back home.
