Thankfully when my dogs play fetch, they play fetch. They're pretty focused on the game - you grab onto that toy like your life depends on it so another dog doesn't get it! If they worked them around in their mouths during fetch, I'm sure they wouldn't last nearly as long.
If I forget to grab them and put them up afterwards, they die a much quicker death.
She chews it up and debones it before it even gets back to me. She's a master toy destroyer, though.
Falcon is exactly the same way. We've learned to not begin playing with them until each corner is VERY reinforced with a wrapping of Gorilla tape. And then a few days later, another layer of tape, etc... They last longer but evenutally fly a bit slower due to the weight, however! LOL!
He still chews on them while bringing them back, but we aren't replacing them nearly as often.
For those chewing dogs - have you checked out Tuffie toys? The tuffie ring works pretty decent as a frisbee and I think they'd hold up to the mouthiness much better. Of course it's not going to fly as well as the squirrel, but it may be worth the trade off if they last a lot longer. I've have a couple tuffie toys that have been in the toy rotation for 2+ years now.

I have to say that I am a big fan of the tuffie toys. For anyone who remembers the "red dino" in Faroh's "Identify and Fetch" routine, when he was a wee thing - that dino is still alive and in immaculate shape. It's Faroh's favourite wrestle/kill/hump (in that order) buddy, and he does it every night. Even with his big boy teeth and jaw power, it's still going strong. I will definitely be purchasing more large (and small) toys from them.
I had a tuffie boomerang at one point. It did last much longer than I ever expected. I lost it way before it died. Never knew that they made plush toys, too.
Maybe I will have to treat the dog to a dino toy
She LOVES plush toys, but usualy they get decapitated in seconds. I haven't let her have one since she was about eight months old.
I recently got JD one of the Tuffie Alien looking toys (we call it "Shark" because of the teeth on it). He loves it and so far it's held up extremely well to mouthing/chewing by both him and his 100# sister.
