OMG! You guys! Elvis after the bath!
It just sends me, really.
Are there guinea pig clubs? Breeders for grown ups? FORUMS!!!!
yes yes and yes. There are usually regional clubs, shows, judges. The american cavy breeders association is a sub club of the american rabbit breeders association. There are clubs, regional events, and yep grown up breeders who are serious about raising them.
I always cringe a little when I see Andrew holding that pig. Poor piggie can't breathe held like that. I have no problem eating an animal, I do require them to be cared for and slaughtered in a humane way.
A few days ago on one of the major newsites there was a story about eating live lobster while the head is still twitching elsewhere on the plate. I know they're just big aquatic bugs but I still don't like the idea.

I looked into the guinea pig as a food source, but rabbits keep coming out on top.....
Rabbits are certainly survivors and production masters. They also don't have the vitamin C problem that cavies do. Both still have the fat deficiency for survival food. You'd still need something else like chicken or fatty canned fish like tuna or salmon to balance it.
