My wife took a sample to our vet early this morning, just got the results for the urine test... no bacteria and a few white blood cells
our reg vet has today off, and the vet there wants the dog to come in, now my issue is with the atitude we got when the vet tec asked if we wanted to wait untill tomorrow for our reg vet and the vet that ran the test very snottily said "I don't care if it comes in today or tomorrow"
I would rather wait for our vet, he is great with all our animals, and this other vet in my opinion(from past visits) is a total cow who bangs out the animals to get a good return on her time, and is not at all easy to talk with.
I do not want to risk having a bad experience for my puppy as I know first hand how hard it is to get an unhappy dog in to the building, my one mastiff got a bad experience with a pushy vet.
should I wait till tomorrow morning, I think Pisa will handle the wait ( I always over react as some here may have noticed)and think we will actually have the time spent checking her out, not run through the motions for a fee.. I cant get in till later this afternoon anyways

If it were me I'd wait for the vet that I liked...
She doesn't sound like she's horribly uncomfortable and she's drinking and eating, right?

hi Lynne, she is drinking and eating normal, just had her out and she is not straing and is her normal self.
I am going to wait, I'm kinda worked up about the attitude, and have over the years been to most of the clinics in a practical driving distance and really like and appreciate our reg vet, first name basis, not like some who are DR know-it-all
on the flip side, Pisa is getting extra training sessions, we are actually shaping good downs and stands each time out, plus she is loving the extra playing time

Wait.
This is not an emergency. Maybe the soap from her bath caused some temporary irritation and it will all clear up on its own.

Just got back from the vet, he wanted to insert needle and draw urine direct from the bladder, but was not enough to feel as I had her out for a pee 2 1/2 before appt.
I have an appt. for tomorrow afternoon, so no peeing after 6 am.
The reason to do this is so a culture can be done, grow for 2 days, then get shipped to Edmonton for testing.
I explained the last three days, sunday bad with straining,
yesterday and today she is normal. I asked if it could have been a fluke thing, and was told the test should be done to be safe incase it is a UTI.
should I get this done(I was told it is a minor thing that a puppy will get over ) this was the only accident in the last 5 weeks. I don't want to have her get an infection, but the last two urine tests were clear, I'm confused and want what is best for Pisa

This was the vet you like, right?
What I hope is that Dr. Betty can help with the explanation about when it's necessary to get a sterile sample (extracted) and not a clean catch (collected by you).

If the dog has no symptoms no tests are indicated. If there is off and on
straining, urgency, then a work-up is in order.
It is "modern" and safe to tap the bladder with a sterile needle to obtain a sterile sample. It is good medicine. The urine will let them know exactly what bacteria are present, from this they can tailor the right treatment.
I guess if it was my dog I would not spend anymore time on diagnosis unless I was sure that there was a problem. If you are sure, then have them work her up.
If not, it would be OK to wait a little while IMO.

I wondered when a clean catch is sufficient and when not.
But you really answered it with 'It is "modern" and safe to tap the bladder with a sterile needle to obtain a sterile sample. It is good medicine.'
That answers my side-topic. :-)

It was our vet, and I'm not seeing anything, she has been totally normal last two days, the only reason she went out during last night is because I woke up to go and took her out anyways.
sunday was just like what tipped me off to the first infection, but it stayed that way for I remember three or so days till the meds started working.
I have all night to see if she stays normal and will probably cancel appt in morning if she stays OK, I'm thinking something should have showed in one of the samples, especially because they wern't sterile
I am still confused as to what happened on sunday

awww.. last evening had her out for a good play and walk 30 min at least, came in, ate supper, took Pisa out for a pee at 7:30 left her in crate, I went outside to do stuff, came in at 9:40, 2hr 10 min later to a wet crate and dog, she had peed, took her out, a bit of a pee, bathed her, went out after drying her off, a bit more pee, no straining though. Out before bed for a pee, no straining
so, she wook up at 4 am whining, went out for a pee, got her up this morning, she peed no straining,
I'm really baffled now, so I hope she can hold it till we go to vet at 1:00 with a full enough bladder to have this sterile withdrawel done.
could this be something phycological????
I hope the test shows something, going to be a long couple days waiting for the results
