Breed a dog to work 12+ hours a day without stopping for more than a quick sip of water, in rugged, extreme climates with minimal instruction or help from the human handler...
And yeah. Put that same dog in a setting where he gets 1% of the work he was bred to do? A good many of them will slowly go insane.
yup...i made the BIG mistake of correcting him in both those situations..the TOTALLY incorrect way in both circumstances. I learned that absolutly no intimidation, physical force, or physical correction is exceptable. remember you told me in those posts the better way to do things..and since then i have now the only correction he gets is redirection or "no" followed by crate time if he doesn't stop. just so you know i am learning
ok...so hours of exercize and twice daily mental stimulation. PERFECT!
ok..here...these videos will show you what i mean..about his whining durring OB and his barking when he wants somthing or doesn't want somthing and also to show i do work on OB and bite work it will also show how he is corrected..when doing ob work i just say nope and ask again..or just ignor and reask.
You need a trained EXPERIENCED WITH PUPPIES helper to work this pup! And not all helpers are good with bringing pups along. Some are better with older dogs! Choose WISELY!
He should be doing any work that he is doing in PREY ONLY!!!!!
Find a ShcH club to help you with this pup, if sport is your intention, before you screw him up beyond fixing.
he has never once barked at anyone...untill last week. ...
we had a problem with our cable so when the cable guy showed up and walked into the houes Ace went nuts and started barking at him and tried to get out of his pen. when the guy looked at ace my pup went crazy again trying to get out of the pen. the guy was supprized and quickly walked out the front door.
the whole eppisode only lasted for about 30secs..and from now on i'll have ace in my room when strangers come over. but i am wondering if this is normal. I will admit the guy who showed up at the house intimidated the crap out of me (6'2 200+lb guy) but i didn't show any emotion. have i created a monster by not allowing other people to touch my puppy while socializing? ... he started to bark the instant the guy walked in the house, did his normal high pitch whine, barked more, a little growl thrown in for good measure, and desperatly tried to open the pen's door.
You definitely created it.
This incident happened after the bitework in your video, with a man threatening the dog, and the dog being required to bark and make overtures of aggression to get relief from the pressure.
i guess i'm screwing up again. i don't hit him just pet him...and yes thta's my hubby..he doen'st make any eye conection or threat to him..just going for and looking at the tug. ace started to do that when he dropped the tug when we were playing. he would drop it and then bark at me or my hubby..he will grab a ball drop it at my feet and bark at me too. thought that was his way of telling me he wants to play. he barks at me to tell me it's dinner time, bark when it's potty time...
i feel horrible. i have never put pressure on him to bark at anything..he just has always done it. barks when we get home cause he is excited, even when i picked him up at the airport as a 10 week old pup..he jumped out of his crate barked wagged his tail and grabbed my jeans and ripped them..jumped all over me and covered me with as many kisses as bites and barks and whines. i sure wish one of you could come over and beat me into submission. I thought it ws prey when a pup chases you downthe field.
