Remember, those other high drive dogs don't love you , only your lazy dog loves you.
I took this to mean that somebody else's high drive dog won't love you the way your own dog does. Meaning, accept the good that you've got, instead of coveting what you don't have.

Oh, OK. But I would certainly hope my dogs love me more then anyone else! My male would rather take a swipe at someone rather then take a command from them. So I would guess that he doesn't LOVE them. My female will just ignore them...she's more forgiving.

I saw the location of your post. I spent the weekend in Sonoma co. California, and it was so beautiful out there all I wanted to do was sit under a tree.
Here's what --- we can trade homes, I live in Minnesota where its -35 in Jan, snow covered the ground from Oct-April, came home to a freaking tornado. I guarantee your dog will perk up if he moves here!

Yes, I wanted to say, that other people's high drive dogs dont love me as much as your own low drive dog. Should have been more precise with my English.
In other words, I wanted to say that my dog is the hand I have been dealt. I need to work with what I have instead of looking at what other dogs can/cannot do.
I never meant to say that High drive dogs don't love their owners, I meant to say that High drive dogs that are owned by other people are of no use to me because my dog is the one which loves me.

hi there, I am a newbie to this site. I was really quite happy to read this post (in a good way!). I have a 6yro rottie who I am starting out in rally-o (rally obedience). While she is still able to learn things no worries, she is a bit lazy and gets bored and loses concentration quickly. She is very food motivated which is good. So just reading these posts have given me ideas for training and shows.
Just wondering, at competitions, is it best to leave her in the car until it is almost time to go into the ring ( time for a toilet and quick warm up) Obviously once I arrive I will let her out for toilet, get my number and all that, should I then put her away so she isn't standing around getting bored? Sorry for all the questions !
Jaylene, I've sent you a PM. When you log in, click on the flashing envelope under "My Stuff."

Not my gal... have to use a crowbar to pry her away from the woodstove! When it's time to go out to do her business I get "Nah, I'll hold it 'til spring." And she presses herself down in her bed.
Crochet... FAIL!

A smart but relaxed and mellow dog is what we are all seeking! I think mine will be that way in about 4 years!

Betty,
I am laughing because I bought my dog from a breeder in Minnesota! After I picked him up at the airport I took him to a grassy area to relieve himself.. He hadn't stepped on grass before! Only snow and the tile floor at the breeders house.. I think he would love to live in the snow, I just went to a seminar in Medford Oregon, after that we drove up the mountain where he played in the snow and swam in a lake that had been frozen solid all winter.. he hates being hot and chooses to sleep outside on the deck, and he really won't work when it is over 65 degrees... pour guy (: I am glad you enjoyed your visit out here and I hope you can come back again.. let me know and you can visit our Schutzhund Club!
