i dont use the carte for punishment.. what i meant was i could tell she was getting annoyed with the other dogs so i put her to crate when i noticed. I normally don't crate my dogs, though they are crate trained. Unless i'm away from home for several hours (which is rare) they have freedom to roam most of the house. and when i said i make her get off the sofa, i wasn't saying furniture makes her bad. I let all of my animals on the furniture (including her) with no problems.. However, i said if im on the sofa watching tv and she is on my lap and another dog comes up to me and she growls - i make her get on the floor.. as soon as she is on the floor and not so close to me the behavior stops. I will start crating her during meal times, that seems like a good idea to try. it already seems like she is doing better.. so far only one flare up this week

I know you didn't say furniture makes a dog bad.
What you DID say is that the bed or sofa is where this usually happens. So I say don't let her on the bed or sofa and you have eliminated, by your words, where most of the problems take place.
This will give her time to get out of this habit of lashing out during those times. I suspect that when enough time has passed, she can probably be given back the privilege of the couch or bed. For a lot of dog's, simply avoiding the problem or problem areas is enough for them to rehab.
