I don't have a Mal, I have a Dutchie, but close enough. Sometimes, I wonder if he ever sleeps.....

You know, I don't think I will ever be able to understand what you guys are talking about. Dogs just do not behave like that around me for very long.

It really depends on the individual dog, and also it's genes and it's lines. I know people with Mals who never stop, ie. the dog will pace the house constantly unless put in a crate.
My pup was crazy crazy crazy until a few weeks after her teething was over, and all of a sudden she turned into an awesome little house dog. I would still never leave her loose unsupervised, but she can settle down and relax in the house now and she's about 7 1/2 months old.
I don't think that's it's anything I did, we're just lucky enough to have Mals with that rare "off-switch."

I don't really mean misbehavior- my dog is VERY well behaved in the house... he's just a busy-body, as are most other Mal's/DS's I've met. Yes, there are a few lines and individual dogs who do know how to chill and be good... but IMO, the majority of them don't act like a labrador in the house. While I say Koenig is great inthe house, he's usually staring at me, waiting for something fun to happen. Not just sleeping, waiting to be called. He's obsessing about when the next track will be laid, or when the next game of tug, or fetch will arrive. Busy dogs= smart dogs!

I think I know what you mean. My dogs can be go-go-go outside, but can chill in the house. I mean they can be intent and crazy in the house, but I usually tell them to go chill so they go grab a bone to chew or something. Not to say they're like a lab or anything - they'll still snap to attention when I go to anther room, but they will snooze if I'm working at the computer.

Just watching Zane I can tell that he wants to be calm, but for some reason he can't relax enough. I'm hoping that it's something time will fix. Perhaps he's had a turbulent past being shuffled around and hasn't ever learned how to just mellow out.
My dogs are balls-to-the wall when they're outside off leash, but inside they aren't insane. Or maybe they are and it's just normal for me, since this is what I've always picked out when looking for dogs (to keep). Maybe I'm not noticing their crazy behaviors since I've never owned one of those Lab type dogs that lays around and does nothing all day, so when people point out how crazy their dogs are I'm like 'Really? Because I don't see it.'
