I hear you Will. My point was what music would have emerged later in life once the commercial aspect was over, like SRV starting 12 string blues by himself on stage before he died, imagine how much better that would have got! stuff like that. That's what I mourn for.
I personally do not think drug addiction and alcoholism are diseases, and I realize many medical professionals would say I don't know what in the heck I'm talking about. From my perspective, it is a choice and an addiction, which can be kicked when one makes the very difficult decision to do so. I speak from very close proximity to the issue. 'Ain't easy, but it most certainly can be done.
I think these "stars" obviously receive the most attention, but there are countless, destitute souls who sell everything they own, then themselves in order to feed their addictions rather than learn to deal with life's trials in a sober state... We just don't hear about them when they are found dead on a street corner.
Like Will, I do not have much sympathy for the individual in this case.... Sounds like she was surrounded by folks who attempted to get her help. I do hope she has found the peace which eluded her here.
Maybe you have to have a family member who is an alcoholic/drug addict to feel compassion.
OR, maybe some of us have had that problem and beat it. Compassion hell, they need a kick in the ass, quit feeling sorry for themselves and be thankful for the life they have.

Any behavior that is reinforced is more likely to occur again.
They want for *nothing*, the world is their oyster, and it just isn't enough.
Call me heartless, but there are so many suffering people in this world who tonight will go to bed hungry, and this spoiled "star" kill herself through stupid excess.
Because they want for nothing but haven't got the most important thing-God. That is why.
