There are many evenings after a rough day that I go into my house and the kids are all doing their own thing, and the husband is piddling around the house. We do dinner and homework...the kids are asking me where their stuff is ect. 8 'oclock rolls around and I sit down to chill and it's Ollie that comes to me and asks permission to get on the couch, cuddles in with his head on my lap. This is my comfort at the end of those rough days. The dogs like feeding time and their walks, but they wait around to be there for me. That's why I hurry home at lunch to let them out and skip nights out for the most part. I want to be there for them like they are for me.
I'm going to send this to everyone who gets frustrated with me for my "I can't, I have to take care of the dogs" lifestyle.
My son's girlfriend wants us all to have a 'family' holiday next spring, and she pre-empted my 'I have the dogs' answer by telling me her friend breaks horses and could EASILY manage the dogs, I had to break it to them bluntly that I would not be able to relax without fretting hourly about how they would handle 4 very individual dogs, and more to the point I would miss them too much, and if I do go on holiday I would want to take the dogs with me, they look at each other and do the whole circling the finger at the side of the head thing, and I do not give a hoot!
