Thanks, Anne. You have confirmed some things that I suspected, and echoed the advice of three pros that I deeply respect. I was originally seeking a companion, and could not have asked for better! I'm the lucky one; She has opened many doors for me already. Whatever we end up doing, I aim to make sure she enjoys it.
And yes, I have been worried about the hips. My vet is familiar with OFA and Penn, but he also likes getting paid. As soon as I can, I plan to have her evaluated.
I have a lot to learn about Sadie. It may be a year before I know if her deficiencies are environmental or genetic, and how sound she is. Regardless, she is in a forever relationship now, so time is on my side. If there is one thing I've learned, it's that, for the sake of the GSD, some dogs do not need to reproduce.
No worries...
Welcome to the Forum. She looks very beautiful. In my opinion, you should ignore the lines. If she performs in schutzhund to expectations then that is what matters. The proof is in her performance and not in her papers.
One of my dogs is a total goner when it comes to obedience. I have tried and tried with him and given up. Initially I was upset, but all of a sudden he had a very important job. To act like a fool, give me lots of kisses, be picked up and get babied. The moment I made peace with the idea that it is OK for him to be like that , he became more valuable than the other three.
All dogs have a talent, it is upto us to find out what it is. He probably is saving my life every day by reducing my blood pressure, and making my brain secrete dopamine when I pick him up and kiss him.
So I am not joking when I say that he became to most valuable dog
I worked at Leerburg for many years, and was able to meet many of the fine dogs that Ed had bred. Natan and Iwa were both gone when I worked there, but I worked with many Natan daughters, and Iwa's son Orfey (Sam) was one of my favorite dogs at the kennel.
I don't have a picture of Quin v Leerburg (Call name Storm- dam to Uri) but I did find one for her littermate Quanda. http://leerburg.com/quanda.htm
Sadie has some GREAT blood mixed with some not so great blood - but blood isn't everything. Find out what she likes to do and go from there. She may not be the SchH champ, but could kick butt at Flyball. You never know until you try.
Have fun with her - sounds like you are planning on that already We would love to hear updates!!!!
