I'm a bit late on this one... but will still give you my opinion/experience.
How old is the dog? Traditional CCL repairs (not TPLO) tend not to be as 'guaranteed' in success as TPLO, but when my family had to make a decision as to what type of surgery on our 7yr old Rott/Shep, we opted for the traditional route.
Our thoughts were why restore his bum leg to 100% function, when there is a good chance that the CCL on the opposite leg would blow on a dog of his age and size (110lbs, healthy weight- not fat)
If you've got no idea how Hank injured himself, I'd guess that he's got some joint weaknesses, in his conformation, and re-injury would be likely. It's hard, as he's so young- but I would not chance the conservative route of rest/braces/time to heal. He's so young, and I would think if the joint is not repaired well, and rehabbed the right way he'd re-tear.
JMHO. Let us know how he's doing, and what you decide!
