VanCamp
I haven't competed for a while either, but I still watch. It is getting better. The better trainer are getting more common and bored dogs are getting fewer.
Nov 8,9,10, DVG Midwest KG Championship will be in St Charles Mo., just out side St. Louis. Anyone on the board close enough for this one? It will be my first look at a SCH trial. Very excited!
Also Oct 16-18, 2002 Nat SCH invitational & AD, BH. Being in the middle of the week I don't know what I'll get to on this one.
What I can say is in DVG if there are two dogs on a field and both do all the exerises, but one is dog is more disciplined and not bouncy and the other is more free, in most cases the free dog will score higher, and get away with a tad more.
In protection I find that the fullness in the grip is not as important as it is in USA. If the dog bites not quite full in DVG but hard, and sure, then it will get full points in most cases. You will not get knocked on for a dog that is a bit of a fighter. In USA and the SV it depends on the judge and in big trials, you will more then likley get banged some points.
Mistakes are mistakes, but I think that a few misplaced steps (a near bump) or whatever minor mistakes are ok. As long as that dog is just freakin' hyped up, I want to see him place higher than the dog that may have been perfect, but not as spirited. Personal preference. . .
I think it is more difficult to train the hyped dog to that level (with some minor infractions) than to get a perfect score and extinguish some spirit in another dog.
I'm not talking about major faults here, just the overall look.
Nice point Mike, I also enjoy the protection phase of the DVG.
