At 8.5 months old he is still a baby - with untold energy.
Just an idea --
If you want to see how he would fair in bitework then buy a buggy whip at a farm store, attach leather at the end and let the chase begin. Let him chase it on the ground or fly it around like a bird flying low. When he catches it- tug it around some and let him win by running around with him for a while. When/If he looses it - let the games begin again. Not only will this wear him out but you will be letting him do what he is bred to do - all dogs bite.. just direct his attention to something more fun than you mans manhood - heehee.
Good Luck With Your Bundle Of Energy
Our lives have gone to the dogs- Ain't it fun???
Does he know a "place" command? If he's in his place (dog bed or other suitable spot), he can't bother your husband or your other dog. This is, of course, assuming he has appropriate mental and physical exercise.
I use a place command to teach my young, rambunctious Mals (and the house pets I train) to settle in the house.
He knows a place command, but I don't use it often. I don't see the point of him being out of his kennel if all he's going to be allowed to do is lay on a chair while the rest of us get to move around the house. When he's inappropriate he's put into his kennel for 5-10 minutes for him to calm down and reset.
I think Konnie means using the place command to teach him to relax out of his crate...more about teaching him how to behave properly in a very concrete way, before allowing him additional freedom (like the situations he is getting into trouble with now).
