If he's grabbing the flirt pole toy by the string that can become a bad habit. Try and do the same thing with a squeaky toy on a short, hand held string. That gives the dog much less area to grab.
Without looking I can't remember if the Ellis dvds address this but I know the Flinks drive building tape does.
I have no advice to offer, but your video has inspired me to teach my dog the same thing ... a great indoor activity now that it's turning cold and wet here in Canada.
