Put the ball under your left armpit while heeling. This should fix the forging a bit as when you release the ball he will find he will miss it if he is to far forward. Bernhard had me do this with my boy and it helped out alot. Almost impossible to get rid of slight forging all together on high drive dogs. Bastin and most national level dogs even forge slightly at times. You can see it and listen to the critique from the last nationals on alot of dogs.
Try it out and good luck.

That's a typical session when you first change the rules on them. Naturally, they try the easy way of going directly to the reward, but as soon as they discover that it's futile, they start figuring out what it will take to push your buttons. Congrats for having the patience to let him figure it out!
Thank you all for your posts here, you have been a real help. I am amazed how quickly the problem is solved when going back to basis, it's just a matter of days. I thought I would never be able to solve my problem, yet, this Saturday, we luckily got the BH. I am really happy as it is my first trial as well as my dog's first trial.

In order to really enjoy a dog, one doesn't merely try to train him to be semi-human. The point of it is to open oneself to the possibility of becoming partly a dog. - Edward Hoagland
