Ahh, Cesar...a show I wish my hubby had never seen. You see, he can't stop jabbing ME in the neck and going "PShhh!" in my ear as an effort to get me to listen!
(He likes to tease me when I do happen to watch Cesar and have a running commentary with myself the whole episode!)
I respect anyone who's working towards bringing more balance to a dog's life. He reads dogs well and humans even better. He's said many times that he's not a "Trainer", simply that he rehabilitates dogs.
I think for some of the more common issues - resource guarding, loose leash walking, territorial issues and what people generally interpret as "good manners" he's developed some wording/communication that both people and dogs understand. He's out there transforming pet dog lovers into more capable owners.
For those that can read and do train dogs, I don't think he's got anything new to offer. He's good at explaining behavior and obviously reads dogs well, but has also said there are some dogs he's not capable of helping.
So to me, I guess I'm pretty neutral on the guy as far as his work with dogs goes. If it works for him and he's able to transfer that into an understanding where it works for others with specific issues, I think that's great.
As far as what I've heard about some of his interactions (eg: comparing dogs to women - in third world countries as obedient and North America as lazy, overfed and too much attention) well, that doesn't go over too well with me. It may true, but pretty chauvinistic in my books, same could be said for some men.
With an underlying philosophy like that, it kind of sours the good stuff for me. I'm more about the partnership (with dogs and humans).
Yeah, it's unfortunate. I didn't see either of the shows he did here in BC (kind of glad now), but I sure heard about them.
Here's a bit of gossip review but it's completely accurate from what I heard personally. Just so you know I'm not pulling this stuff out of thin air and you can get his interpretation.
Okay, that's funny (to me anyway, sort of) and completely deserved.
I'm happy to report though, and I will get video, that I shook hands with an older, completely confident neighbor the other day as Vince sat calmly by side. There are alternate ways to go about getting the same result.
A bit slower perhaps, probably not the best for a half hour TV miracle worker, but results that are reflective of a compassionate partnership and a respectful, pain free approach to manipulating the student and the behaviour.
