I overheard a guy telling his son "that dog there's a Pit Bull, and they're mean as hell" while gesturing toward my Doberman. When I corrected him (not a Pit, and Pits are great), he said "somebody's lyin' to ya if they told ya that's anything but Pit; just look at those ears!"
I was laughing too hard to argue by then so I just walked away.
My other favorite: "the more a dog fights a head collar, the more they need one". That one makes me laugh a little too.

Anybody who refers to their dogs as "fur babies." Every time I hear that I spit up a little in my mouth.

(stranger): "Your dog isn't very smart- it won't even sit for me when I tell it to."
(me): "She doesn't need to sit for you, she is not your dog."
(stranger): "Dogs are supposed to listen to anyone that gives it a command. That dog is gonna be trouble when it gets older. I can tell a biter when I see one."
That conversation was about Drift the Magnificent when she was about 4 months old. Yeah, she's the meanest dog I've ever met....
(stranger): "what kind of dog is that?"
(me): "Belgian Malinois."
(stranger): "Isn't that some kind of cookie?"
Toni? A cookie??
(stranger): "Is that a Dutch Shepherd?"
(me): "No, she's a Malinois. She's not fond of stripes, they make her look fat."
(stranger): leaves with a blank look on face...
THAT one was at a flyball tournament asked by a Border Collie owner - I should have asked if her dog was an Aussie...
(stranger): "Is flyball the one where they go through the tunnels and stuff?"
(me): "no, that's agility."
(stranger): "oh, so flyball dogs don't need to be agile then."
I could go on all night.....

This happened to another member here (and I have heard it more than once):
Customer in line behind him, when he was at the cashier counter with RMBs:
"Once they have a taste of raw meat, they become bloodthirsty."

My dog is stubborn.
My dog blows me off when I ask him/her to do something.
Mt dog is Stupid.
My dog is hard headed.
My dog doesn't listen when I tell him/her what I want him/her to do.
My dog will only eat "whatever".
My dog is a con artist.
My dog can spell.
My dog knows when he/she did something wrong but he/she still does it to spiite me.
My dog yadda, yadda, yadda.
This could go on forever.
The vast majority of the time all these dogs are confused. They haven't been taught correctly and chances are the leadership in the pack is lacking. that "pack" can be as simple as just you and your dog.
Plain and simple, dogs do what is successful for them and they avoid what isn't. If the command is clear, the reward is high enough, the correction (if needed)is fair and firm, there is no reason for a dog to be any of the above.
And "He KNOWS what he did was wrong; that's why he looks guilty."

Ha ha ha . I have worked at boarding kennels, vet clinics, animals shelters, and I am a trainer. I really want to write a book with quotes like this. I know I would by one if it came out. Some of my favorites:
Client: " I am sorry but we are going to look for a more humane trainer"
Me: " That is your choice but may I ask what you found inhumane about my recommendations?" ( dogs has bit their grand child in the face )
Client: " We do not believe in using leashes, they control the dog to much and that is inhumane"
Client: " My dog is great with other dog. He plays the dominate game at the dog beach. He just love smashing dogs to the ground and biting them. The other dogs seem to love the submissive role!"
Me thinking to myself: "I should have become a pharmacist..."
Client: " My dog hates coming in the house, that why he stays outside all day"
Me: " What does he do that makes you think this?"
Client" Well he pees in the house, you don't pee on things you like"
No wonder most of the trainers I know drink

A nasty small dog owner: a big dog like your need to be trained, small dogs don't need training if they bite they won't real hurt any one or make a big mess in the house if they potty inside. Training is just for the larger dogs.

The one that bugs me and I've heard it many times "It's just a dog" and these people are serious.
All the things people say would make a good book for a bathroom reader with a title like "Things Clowns Say"

*random stranger* "That's a beautiful lab, how old is she?"
*I quietly ignore the comment thinking the question isn't directed at me*
*I turn around and the stranger asks again*
"That's a beautiful lab, how old is she?"
*I reply* "She is 1 yrs old, and she's a great dane, not a lab."
*stranger replies* "Oh no, she is definitly lab, she has a black coat like all the other ones I've seen."
True story.
Cassy & Leo enjoying a nap.
