Just curious ... has any one ever seen a Black Russian Terrier compete in protection sports? I know that they are not a terrier, but I have wondered how they would compare in the sports area.
There is Airedale, Rottie and who knows what else in their background.
I think it's one of those "new" fad breeds that don't have a great gene pool here in the States. Consequently not much to select from.
The show folks seem to have gotten to them first and that's not a good thing for nerve and temperment quality.

Yes, they are a rare breed. But, were bred (beginning in the 1930's)at the military "Red Star" kennel, and used by the Russian military. The primary breeds used were Rottweiller, Giant Schnauzer, Airedale, and Russian Water Dog (also included were GSD and Caucasian Ovcharka). It is believed that 17 breeds were used to get the traits needed. They were bred by the military kennel to guard and protect while withstanding the Russian winters. I have heard of some one that was training one in French Ring when that sport first came to the States. And, I was just wondering if anyone else had pursued protection sports with one.
I always thought Pekes looked like what Dr. Frankenstein would do with the hairballs he pulled from the drain.
I'm going to have to remember that one.
I was rooting for that gorgeous and elegant Irish Setter. Wouldn't have minded seeing the Dobe or the Dal win.
As the judge was getting ready to announce her decision, I was repeating the mantra, "Please, not the Pekingese, please, not the Pekingese." I think I even would have preferred the GSD over the Peke.
Anybody else notice the PETA people trying to storm the ring and being stopped by security just before BIS judging?
I was really hoping the for Dobe, mainly because she is one of our local dogs. I got to meet her at a local OB trial about a month ago along with their other three Dobes. All super impressive dogs. Can't believe it got beat out by a fuzzy little mop. How can you compare the two and pick a winner?
