"... it won't matter how slim the dog is as far as Hip Displaysia is concerned, and that you would be better to take a bit longer to find a REPUTABLE breeder of working line Dogo's who does test for HD.
If you are contacting those breeders, if they do confirm they don't test hips, ask why they don't?
To me, that would be a red flag right away if they just say they don't.
To me, that should be a given for any breeder of large breed dogs that are suseptible to HD."
To me, "we don't test hips and submit the results" would make me RUN. It IS a given. Finding breeders who don't is finding breeders you want nothing to do with.
JMO, but I'm in a huge group!

I've not met a single one I would like to own. Make sure you personally meet both parents etc and that doesn't mean you get a good pup. I train with a guy that's on his third, the first male is a nervous wreck, the female is a nervous wreck and the new pup who is just under a yr now has SEVERE animal aggression already. There's better choices out there for an active dog. I'd look for a good American bulldog or something if you like the bully breeds.

Just my .2c...look for temperament first!
The most athletic dog in the world will be no good to you if you can't take it anywhere.
In the dogo world, working dogs are used for guarding and hunting. They are working to preserve those characteristics that make up THAT temperament. That means prone to people and dog aggression. Not that all will be like that and you can certainly work on exposure, but you are fighting mother nature.
The working lines will have less of those characteristics, but you may find more with bad nerves since they are more looking at the conformation of the dog, and less at the temperament.
I agree with Al, and think either an American Bulldog or an Olde English Bulldoggue.
Here is a link to a working line breeder of the OEB's:
http://gargoylebulldogs.com/GARGOY~1/Page_1x.html
I do not know if he health tests (I was just using as an example), or if he titles, but this is the type of research I would be doing. If a breed doesn't fit EVERYTHING you are looking for, then find another. There are MANY breeds out there who are athletic bully breeds, with breeders who do health test, title and who's lines will be more social.
Good luck in your search!

Thank You. Those Bulldogs were nice but I do not like any breed with pushed in faces, Brachycephalic dogs . I like dogs similar in looks to the Rottweiler, Dutch Shepherd, and APBT. Large heads, Muscular, athletic, and high drives. The APBT is too small, can't afford the FR traiing for the Dutch, and the Rottweiler is too heavy and they ALL die from Osteosarcoma by 6 years old. The Dogo was an obvious choice for me. Since I want to do Springpole (hanging on tire or rope) I automatically eliminate many breeds like the Malamute, Husky, and Rhodesian Ridgeback. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Dutch Shepherds and Belgian Mal's but I can't afford the FR training and I do not want any other lines.

It doesn't matter how "thin" the dog is though.
That doesn't mean the dog won't be susceptible to HD.
And the only way to hopefully avoid it all together is to buy from a breeder that screens for it.
if the breeder says they don't screen because their dogs are thinner and won't be prone to it that's ridiculous.
a thin dog can get HD just as easily as a thicker, bigger, fatter dog can.

I don't understand the FR reference. Has someone told you that Ring was necessary for certain breeds?

plus if FR is too expensive...how the heck can you afford a good Dogo???
i've looked at a few breeders here in canada and haven't seen one yet that offer pups for less than $2500...and im not even sure they are a good reputable breeder.

I don't get the FR thing either. FR training (or any other sport) isn't REQUIRED of any dog breed.
You've already identified the sports you're interested in. Pick the breed that best matches that list. Then pick a breeder that breeds dogs that win in those sports.
