It doesn't make you a bad girl.
I think the world would be a better place if people thought more like you do when it came to dogs/animals, at least there would be less in shelters.

Having sons who rarely do what I think is right I can sympathize.
It's going to be cute, a big lump of a pup -- most Danes have a calm and gentle mind.
Boxers are usually smarter, both are willing to please.
I think this could be a great dog, and a fun dog for you to help train.

However you phrase it, though, please get across to them the huge bloat vulnerability of this X.
Yes, it's a negative topic ..... but this is important. Whenever I read "Great Dane" I instantly think of the terrible bloat stats (by far the breed's biggest killer); the lifetime probability of bloat for a Great Dane is well over 35% (!), and Boxers are almost as high as GSDs. People acquiring a Great Dane from a breeder will be well aware of this risk (it's no secret), but I doubt that a "free to good home" transaction came with any such information.
So it's no far-fetched downer to bring it up, encourage them to know all about bloat, and be sure they watch that video we have posted here several times of an Akita who is bloating (and who survives).
And back to the thread ..... as important as this is, I don't mean to take over the thread.

I have send them the link to the Akita
I was hoping you would see this and comment, bloat and cancer worry the life out of me with my 2, and I take every recommended caution with them - among my many concerns is the TIME they need to invest in this pup, so many of Alison's attitudes to dogs needs and requirements worry me, she has a MO with her dogs that I really disagree with, most specifically the attitude that dogs should just be thrown together and get on with it, recipe for disaster in my book, she thinks I am way to anal with my dogs, and that I over think everything, I just want the wee pup to get everything it needs and deserves.
I know I am coming over as a control freak, and I told Jamie over and again about the cancer and bloat risks with both breeds, I may be worrying unnecessarily, but I just want this pup to have all its needs met.
I don't think I am very popular with them at the moment, because I am not turning cart wheels and telling them what they want to hear; Jamie is quite cross with me, I hope he proves me wrong, but I will be giving them unsolicited advice on Sunday, though I know it won't go down very well, but I have to try anyway

Is bloat when the stomach flips?
A friend Dain just passed from it 2 weeks ago she was 6 yrs old. It was the second time it happened, the first 3 or 4 months ago, the Vet said it was a miracle it survived the first time.

Bloat is actually the gastric dilatation in GDV. The "flip" or "twisting" (torsion) is the volvulus. The two events are sometimes referred to simply as "bloat," although bloat can happen and resolve without volvulus.

Also, a big list of DOs and DON'Ts is nowhere near as effective as one per occasion. And asking if THEY have any questions, along the lines of "I hope I can help without offending anyone. Maybe you have questions or concerns you want to ask me about?"
And if it can be worked in naturally (not an obviously phony setup), maybe you can ask one of them for a bit of instruction or advice. "I love this dessert! Any chance of getting the recipe?" or, even better, if at all possible, a compliment on something they have done with the puppy. "That's a perfect dog bed!"
The last thing you want is for them to completely tune you out.
Trust me. I know all about being a didactic and bossy know-it-all. I'm the eldest of seven kids!

Some lines of Danes have a hi incidence of bone cancer -- and some Boxer lines are like tumor rats, nearly 100% of those living long enough die of sarcoma .
There could be huge vet bills, I suppose.
OR..............NOT!
Sometimes you get lucky.
