Its a tiny company Ben, he is judge jury and executioner, although he didn't tell me himself, sent a retained HR consultant to do that
Joe, I wouldn't have done anything different.
Better start reading the job sites, and I have already been in touch with an employment solicitor.
I have known this guy since I left school, we were all mates together, he is heavily influenced by his daughter, (my god daughter) and what she says goes.
Sucks big, big time.

There's definitely something better out there for you Tracy. You just need to find it! You did the right thing, the dog could have died. Ask your God daughter how she'd feel if that happened.

Thanks Elaine, I am working on it now!
I know I did the right thing, and I would do it again, I have a money grabbing god daughter, (more like demon spawn really!) who has 2 dogs herself, one of which is a sweet little black cocker who she plans to breed, using the reason that she might as well make some money out of her
Whatever the outcome of this 'investigation' the prospect of staying there is untenable, and frankly, given their low moral standards, I don't really want to be associated with them anymore, that little Whippet may have just changed my life for me, onwards and upwards, will keep you posted, who knows, my lotto numbers may come up then we can set about getting you all over to my Hunting Lodge in the Scottish Highlands

Kind of almost sounds like she (they) were looking for an excuse to get rid of you anyway. But I could be wrong. It also sounds like they are not the kind of people, with that poor of a moral compass, most would want to be associated with anyway. Hopefully you will find another job of your liking quickly.
You did the right thing for that dog. The same that most of us would have done. Sorry that it cost you your job, though.

Discharge from employment without just cause is grounds for a lawsuit. I would find a good employment attorney willing to pursue this...they would know the law. There is liabilty on the part of the employer to show proof of documented cause for discharge especially to fire someone on the spot like that.
There may have been cause for a warning in your case, but discharge does seem to be way over the top. You may seriously have grounds for a suit. I would do so, even to protect your rights when needing to produce past employment info to a new employer.
As a manager of several medical pracctices, any 'problems' or discipline of employees was fully documanted & in most cases the employee in question needed to sign a written notice of the event & follow up discussion. Still had one try to sue the doctor, but she legally didn't have a leg to stand on & the suit was dropped.
Good luck & I hope you find another position quickly.

Discharge from employment without just cause is grounds for a lawsuit.
Doesn't this vary by state?
In many states, "employment at will" is the norm. Without a contract, an employee can be fired for any cause at all (except for something that is federally protected like disability, for example.)

I don't know if it is state to state. I am in CT & I have seen suits from employees being fired without just cause. I think if you sign an employment agreenment it may state that one can be dismised at the will of the emoloyer without notice, but it may not be the case without that. That's why I said that a knowledge employment attorney is key to what your options are if any.
