Any place that has leash laws will put the blame on the owner of Fluffy, however I don't think that holds true for humans.....too bad! (just kidding, I'm not THAT anti-social!)
One problem with the radio fence I encountered was that if a dog runs "through" it under the lash of fear (like a thunderstorm), it can't get back into the yard.
That might not be a consideration with a dog with good nerves, but it's worth thinking about. I'd also worry about the dog getting excited while chasing a small animal and likewise crossing the line.
Sad news on using Underground Electric Fences.
A friend just had his Lab hit by a car when she was able to get outside of the underground fence. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
A small tree had fallen across the underground wire and she walked out on the trunk of the tree.
Yes, she was primeter trained, once she got out she couldn't get back in. Unable to climb like a monkey to get back on tree trunk.
"ALL WHO HAVE THIS TYPE OF FENCING SHOULD BEAWARE IT'S DANGERS ALSO"

You get what you pay for. Stay away from cheap pet–store–supplied electronic training systems and you won't have this problem.
Quality Ecollars and containment systems are meant to be immersed in water and keep on working. They also have timers that shut them off in 10-12 seconds if the worst case scenario should happen.
Lou Castle has been kicked off this board. He is an OLD SCHOOL DOG TRAINER with little to offer.

Hey Lou. I agree with you comment on getting what you pay for but I do have a question. Do you think that these containement systems would actually be able to keep all(or close to it) dogs from getting to a bitch in heat or a prey item?
re; " this is really crap" and "how did you teach them english?"
Well guys, I guess I wasn't very clear in my communication here, I DID put up a fence and there were a couple of reasons for that.....1. the perimeter training wasn't solid when there was outside distraction and I didn't trust it. Sorry if I gave the impression that it was something more....it basically kept everyone in the yard while I was out there with them. I didn't mean to give the impression that it was anything I relied on. My main reason for not using the underground fence was it wouldn't keep out other animals, hikers, etc...and I just trust a good fence over ANY other containment system. That was my main point....didn't mean to get off about the perimeter thing because it was a secondary issue. As far as teaching them english, since I don't know any german or dutch that was the only choice left to me....
