no reddness or itching in the arm pits, belly or anal area.yeast in body or skin the vet didn't say but his body smelled so bad we could hardly be in the same room with him so I quess I can't answer that.no scrapings on his muzzle either. The ear debris was a waxy black in color, no odor either.and an ear swab was done which came back yeast infection. He does not rub his face or ears on anything. Just rubs them with his paws or will scratch them.

So yeast (yes, I know that smell) .... all over (skin)? Very itchy? All over until steroids?
"In his body" meant skin, then? Not systemic?
Do you remember either Candida albicans or Malassezia?
"started last year around Feb.... it was a full blown baterial infection by March. It cleared up then I noticed it happening again in July . We started treating it again but by the time it got bad it was a yeast infection just his ears and then his body got a bad odor.... the yeast."
So the time order was ear infection that was bacterial (per cytology) and then in July ear infection that was yeast (per cytology) followed by yeast all over the body?

actually, He never had the all over itching when he had the smelly yeast. Just head shaking, yeast infection in the ear, smelly body, paw licking, with rubbing and scratching his face and ears.Last night for the first time in three weeks he was up thru the night shaking his head.He had two days of gr.turkey and a 1/2 turkey neck with the giblets and sm. piece of liver. last night. His ears look good this morning. So frustration..could that be from the turkey?
Lew olson new book has a allergy diet which I have followed since starting raw, here is what axel had,raw gr.turkey with 1/2 neck, giblet and sm. piece of liver, cottage cheese, live cultured yogurt, vit.E 400,fish oil 4000,tlb pure pumpkin,1/2 tsp kelp, digestive enzemes, and holistic yeast/fungal tinture drops.

Hi Patricia
My BB male has problems with yeast ear infections; I changed his diet and it really helped, but my friend, (and the BB's breeder) sent me a 5 day course of EasOtic, and it cleared it up like a dream, she is going to send me some more, (bless her) and I will keep it sealed in case it flares up again, which I believe it can do.
He hates having the drops in, but his ears are like pups ears again, and he is so much happier.
Hope your boy gets some relief soon, I know how miserable it can make them.

I feel pretty strongly that you need a derm vet. (BTW, the inside of the ear is derm ... skin.) Regardless, though, he needs a vet now.
What triggers the recurring yeast overgrowth? There is often an underlying cause that you need to find. (Even antibiotics can trigger a yeast overgrowth when they kill off the normal bacteria population of the skin and give yeasts a clear playing field. This started with a bacterial infection, right? {from first post})
The infections are miserable for the dog and can (and often do) lead to worse things, when the skin becomes both an external playground for and a breached internal entryway for bacteria. The dog can be deafened from repeated ear infections.
There are more possible triggers besides allergies, although allergies are indeed very commonly the cause. Still, that has not been ascertained.

I'm not a health professional. I do think based on all these posts that this dog needs a specialist, and that it will save time, misery, and also money in the long run.
I'm so sympathetic. I've been down the ear infection road many times. (In the case of my dogs, it has been triggered by allergies, and only controlled when I managed/controlled the allergies) but you will see from the links that there are other possible underlying problems.) It's not just itching .... ear infections can hurt a lot.
All JMO.

I successfully stopped recurring yeast and bacterial infections in Fama by applying 5 drops of Otomax in each ear every 5 days. It may help you control the situation until you get to the source of the problem.
