I think I will maybe start with the 2 hired breaks and then my hour play break. I really like how you worded it - you can't overdo puppy potty breaks! And you're right, I can schedule breaks and then scale back or increase as need. I don't know why I'm so worried about this - I've housebroken puppies in the past and can't recall any problems (thought it's been about 10yrs... except for a frightfully easy husky/shepherd but she was a little older than my new puppy will be!) I guess I'm just sort of nervous because I have a few co-workers currently housebreaking puppies and adult dogs and they seem to be having HUGE issues. Going on MONTHS of training with no success!
I guess I also don't really like the idea of a stranger handling my puppy in her prime learning/exploring time since I've seen how easy it is to make a dog dog-reactive. Our one male husky had severe dog reactivity issues after a bad run-in with a off-leash dog while on a walk when he was young. I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet though and hire one!! Thanks for the replies
If the puppy can't come to work with you, then you really have just the one alternative, to my mind.
BUT you have a few months to find the person, meet, go through the best routes and make very clear your requirement that the puppy not be brought to meet strange dogs, brought to dog parks, etc. Then the walker can have practice with you after the puppy arrives.
And you could maybe nail down the plan: Maybe it will be to get the puppy right out on-leash to potty in a certain spot, very close, then a walk (even if it turns out best, for example, to have a quick potty and then a little ride to get to the best place), then maybe playing inside for a bit and another quick potty (puppies need potty after waking, after eating or drinking, after playing, etc.) .... whatever it is, you can have it all agreed on and practiced.

Or should an 8 week old puppy be ok with just a 1x a day let out?
Maybe i misread it, but this is where it looked to me like you were asking if a puppy would be ok with being let out only 1 time during the day while you are at work.
if i misunderstood, I apologize.
Your best bet is to keep a schedule with the potty breaks and stick to it. Give the Petsitter/walker detailed instructions about what you expect. And if it were me, I would even do a couple "surprise im home early from work" pop in visits just to make sure things are going according to your plan.
Or if you are on good terms with your neighbours, ask them to keep an eye on when the petsitter comes, how long they stay etc etc.

I think I actually misunderstood you, I just saw the part about not leaving puppies for 8 Hrs, so I wasn't sure what you were responding to, but it all makes sense now. I'm for sure going with the dogwalker so my pupper will be getting multiple outs. I don't know what I was thinking even asking that. I just have heard some petsitter horror stories, but hopefully if I do my research I can avoid all that.
I like the idea of setting up multiple visits and scaling them back or increasing them as needed. I also like the idea of a pop-in visit. I might actually try and find a dog walker for my 6yr old Malamute male about a month before the puppy comes so that I can have a good relationship with one before I get my puppy. Thanks for the advice!
