Made my first batch of homemade chicken jerky, from a procedure outlined in this forum. I'm happy about an all-natural replacement, As LONG AS the chicken I purchased is not imported from China.
Anyone know anything about Sanderson Farms? Once again, the labelling is very obscure.
Yes, Connie... the reason for my asking. When I started researching several weeks ago, one of the first articles I read stated that China's contamination, pollution, and environmental issues are pervasive throughout their entire agricultural system; not just in processing plants.
I emailed Sanderson Farms, but it says on their site that they have their own feed mills, but over 700 contract growers, so they may or may not have ultimate control over all of the feed in their operation.
Another poster on this thread pointed out that it is virtually impossible to eliminate every Chinese product thatyou could possibly come into contact with. Even the Chinese people that are importing American products may still be consuming Chinese agricultural products to some degree!
I've had a bag of the Waggin’ Train Jerkey in the garage for several months. I have not noticed any problems with Starbuck (I don't think the Chinese Chicken cause the Pannus )
I don't know what to think, but I'll probably throw the rest of the bag in the trash.
On the Made in China topic. I don't think we will ever un-ring that bell. People want stuff cheap, China makes stuff cheaper.
However, I am at a place in my life where I would gladly pay more money for a USA made product in almost all cases (and trust me I am an Internet bargain finder fool). Several years ago we purchased a $500 Valco Stoller (Made in China)
Because it's not a daily food, fed in substantial amounts, melamine-tainted jerky can cause accumulation in the tissue, especially the kidneys, without immediate clinical symptoms.
I also agree that I will pay more for foodstuffs produced in this country. It's not because of any overwhelming admiration for big ag here (or, in fact, for the FDA), but in comparison with what has been discovered about Chinese exports, both are shining stars. JMO!
