FWIW, every dog wears it's nails down differently. One of my GSDs I do every few month or so. The other I had trimmed once in five years and that was only because I felt obligated to do it. They stay very short. Both are on the same concrete/grass yard 24/7.
My last dog and Amber do the same thing, Amber more so. I think its is just the position of her nails on her toes and also she's quite strong when we walk so really grips with those nails.
My animals are not "like" family, they ARE family.
Hey Joan, some dogs have softer nails so they wear easier. I'm pretty sure the reason the two in the middle of his foot wear down because those toes are quite a bit more to the front of his foot then the two side toes, so they naturally contact the hard, flat surface more when he's moving, especially the way Shepherds trot.
How much ground do you cover in 25mins? The distance on the concrete with his young joints would be something to think about more then his nails.
