Update: Brody is now 20 weeks old. His right ear is up almost full time. His left is up when he's interested in smells, sounds, etc. other than that, it still flops down.
He is right in the middle of teething and has only lost a few teeth so far.
I am wondering if gluing the ears is a good idea just to be sure they stand, or if I should just be patient. I am thinking if they don't stand on their own in a couple of weeks it might be time.

As long as there no actual break or crease in the cartilage of the ear, which you should be able to feel, I wouldn't really worry too much until teething is complete. The ears always go wonky during teething anyway. If the ear comes up sometimes, chances are it will come up for good.

Ok, thanks Becky! I will check for any creases tonight, but from what I can recall his ears are very smooth.

So to follow up, I have been giving the vitamin C every day, twice a day. I have been feeding yogurt, giving him lots of recreational bones, etc. to try and get his ears fully up.
Here is is now, just over 5 months old. He's still teething badly (lost 4 teeth in the past few days!) but I think he's just about done losing teeth.
There are a couple of very knowledgeable show dog people at our Schutzhund training group. Yesterday at training they said I will still have to tape his ears because they are too far down the sides of his head, and need to be centered more on the top of his head.
Just when I was so happy that I wouldn't have to mess with his ears...

Gosh Lee, personally, I wouldn't mess with his ears. Remember these are show line folks that are looking for absolute perfection, for the sake of show.
Unless it really bothers you, I think his ear set looks just fine.
More important is all the great training he's getting to be a service dog. JMHO.
If you're happy...never mind what the show folks say!
P.S. teething, I am sure you know, does sometimes mess with the ears, but it sounds like he's almost done teething, so you should be ok.

Thanks Joyce! I felt the same way, I am very happy with him. However there was mention of stud fees if his ears did get perfect, which caught my attention.
It was such a pain to tape my last GSD's ears. He hated it, it stunk, it tore off the hair, etc. etc. so I am already biased against it. I have done some research on the "Tear Mender" glue technique as well, which doesn't seem to bother the dog or leave a big mess.
Decisions, decisions...

Oh, and while he might become a Service Dog, right now he is more than likely going to get his CTD title. I ordered the wrong patches to go on his vest, but used them at the park that day. His patches that say "Therapy Dog In Training" will be here tomorrow.

Just an update in case anyone else is going through this. Brody is now 6 months old and I decided to let his ears develop by themselves with no help from me.
Here we are at NASS last weekend, where he won 2nd place in his group (Baby puppy, 3-6 month old males). The judge said he would have won first, but the tips of his ears are still kind of soft and flap a bit when he runs. They have been doing that, but seem to get stiffer each day. The shows are kind of fun, but he enjoys his IPO/Schutzhund training so much, so that's what we are focusing on. That and his therapy dog work.

Very nice Lee! Brody is really a handsome boy!!
I don't think you are going to have any problems with his ears.
Good luck with Brody!
